    Jets/Texans: McElroy vs. Leinart

Who would you rather have as your backup QB?

    or

I thought Leinart looked pretty good last night. Seems to be in shape and threw the ball well. McElroy looked very limited to me. Can't really pass, and has very little arm strength. Yet after the game, the media praised McElroy and made little mention of Leinart. Hmm.

I would rather have a left handed throwing Chad Penningtion...

Leinhart looked good but I don't think I saw him throw a long pass (not even pass 10yds)...could be wrong.

If the game is on the line in the last few secs, I'm definitely taking Leinart. McElroy's awareness is a little off.

To be fair when the game was on the line last night, he put a ball on the money to his WR and the dude dropped it. Jets would have won.

Well yeah if you don't count the fact that he was 10 yards past the LOS.

McElroy was awful in the pocket. Made a few decent throws, but most were quick drops with single reads.

Dude has very little pocket awareness.

I just wanna know what the fuck McElroy was thinking rushing out of the pocket and running out of bounds as time ran out. Just throw the ball up in the endzone.

It was always astounding to me how the Cardinals offense would go from lethal to downright horrendous whenever Leinart would step in for Warner. It was the most drastic difference between starter and backup I've ever seen in terms of team performance.

I'm a fan of McElroy. And that was long before last night.

He has a long ways to go, but you can't overvalue a QB's toughness. Being able to take a hit and get back up goes a long way. He'll develop into a decent backup, though he's not anywhere near being game-ready yet.

Leinart's problem ties a little into that - he's just not a tough player. Has no idea how to overcome adversity. (On the field, anyway.)

Ahem, remember the 47-7 blowout game vs the Patriots. Remember how that lone touchdown came? Well, do you?

                          :talktohand:

                          Yeah, Leinart's a boss.

                          ___

In a WCO Leinart can be good. He didn't fit into the Wiz's offense which is why the difference was night and day between how he played as a rookie at times under Denny Green and how he played in his entire tenure under Ken Whisenhunt. He's a WCO quarterback.

Leinart looked pretty good, but I thought they gave him a lot of easy, confidence-building throws. Seemed like a lot of bootleg stuff with a throw to the RB or TE.

McElroy had a rough start. The INT was awful. But, he showed toughness and settled in a little bit and did some good things later in the game. His protection wasn't the greatest, and he took some shots. But, he did a good job bouncing back and delivering some throws on the money. He's a really smart guy and I think that helps with his ability to learn the playbook and his decision making. I think as he matures, he'll be a guy that will do a good job protecting the ball. He obviously doesn't have the arm to make the extraordinary throw, but I think his arm is good enough...Pennington-ish. His accuracy got better later in the game. I was impressed with his play for his first pre-season game for as much as they had him throw the ball.

I think I'd rather have McElroy as a backup developmental guy. He can still become something in this league. Leinart is a bust with a fragile mindset.

McElroy the best QB on the Jets roster, that said Id take Leinart based on last nights performance.
