There is lots and lots of talk about paying student-athletes in a form of a stipend as if they are on payroll to the University...however, that is messy as hell as it would violate all kinds of Title XI codes and just isn't feasible (how do you pay a backup lineman in comparison to Tim Tebow?). I also hear plenty of other complicated ideas as how to correct the issue of players taking benefits...

Does accepting a scholarship with room and board not already violate the idea of amateurism? Wouldn't paying players on some sort of stipend violate the same idea? However, is benefiting from your likeness or status truly a violation of amateurism?

All of this seems so convoluted. Why can't players just simply benefit?

Sounds like an easy solution to a now convoluted issue.

"benefit" = anything under the sun, sans signing with an agent, or anything pertaining to point shaving or gambling, et al.

Get free meals at Randazzo's? Cool.
Get something, monetary or otherwise for their jersey or signature? Cool.
Model for Abercrombie and Fitch? Cool.
Work at McDonald's? Cool.

Its under the guise of amateurism, but accepting a scholarship with room and board plus book money and an already small stipend anyway kind of goes against the idea of amateurism anyway.

create a CFLPA under the wing of the NFLPA and let the pros guide them toward the big game. that's my biggest issue with a blank "benefit" check. these are still 18 year dudes who havent learned shit about the real world and who to trust. Provide them with guidance from people other than say, sleezy ponzi schemer types, and ok.

the league can suspend pryor for 5 games, basically honoring the NCAA punishments, I see no reason that the leagues players cant help.
