    Quick preseason impressions

I've been watching bits and pieces of many preseason games that they rebroadcast on the NFL Network. I've seen some teams more than others...but here are my random impressions thus far.

*Colts look terrible. Painter was mediocre in college at Purdue, and there is just no way he can QB an NFL team. The Colts needed to sign Collins, but I don't know how long he will last behind Indy's weak O-line. I think bad drafting/bad draft position has finally caught up with the Colts.

*The Redskins offense doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. Santana Moss still has something left in the tank. Grossman and Beck have both appeared competent. I think Roy Helu will end up being Washington's #1 RB, but Hightower has looked good as well.

*Joe Flacco made some amazing throws against the Redskins, and Lee Evans had some nice catches. I think Evans might be the gamebreaker that Baltimore has needed the past few years.

*Phillip Rivers is going to have another big year. If Vincent Jackson, Gates, and Floyd all stay healthy, SD's passing game should be one of the best.

*Plaxico Burress and Santonio Holmes look to be a tough combo to stop for the Jets. We'll see if Sanchez can elevate his game this year. If not, then he'll never be an elite QB.

*Felix Jones and Jason Witten should be a big part of Dallas' offense. Dez Bryant is terrible.

My one and only preseason impression is that I really, really hate the ESPN MNF crew. Tirico is a geek, Jaws is miscast, and Gruden has morphed into his gimmick and tries too hard. This is now Mike Patrick/Joe Theismann/Paul McGuire level bad.

Its unlistenable. I've never liked Jaworski as an announcer (funny voice, too intense, tries to cram in tangential knowledge between every single play), and Gruden is play-acting too much.

It really is amazing. My wife can't watch them at all, because there is never a moment of silence. Between every fucking play Jaworski and Gruden have to talk the full 30-45 seconds.

the announcers these days are nothing but a mindless drone.....I honestly dont even listen to them anymore. The days of charismatic and entertaining announcers are gone I guess.

I've see three Eagles games so far and I can tell you know offensive line is a glaring weekness. There are some injuries at center and at RT, but if they don't fix it Vick won't last the season.

Talent was never an issue with Hightower. His inability to hold on to the ball in key situations was the main reason he was traded.

Mike Heimendinger's run blocking scheme was awful. Same exact offensive line is opening huge holes in Chris Palmer's new offense.

It helps that 8 aren't in the box since CJ isn't there, but still, some of the holes are ginormous.

Demarco Sampson and Rob Housler are going to be solid.
Bartel has impressed me. I wouldn't mind having him as the #2.

The Redskins looked better on both sides of the ball than I thought they would against Baltimore. Kerrigan/Orakpo could be a nice combo of edge rushers.

Lee Evans looked good against the Chiefs and the Redskins. I think he fits in well with that offense.

Dexter McCluster has looked good at RB. Will be interesting to see how much he is used.

Justin Houston, KC's 3rd round draft pick out of Georgia, has looked awesome as a pass rusher. He has a great first step, and had 2 sacks against Baltimore. He should be a dangerous compliment to Tamba Hali in passing situations.

Yeah he's more natural at RB than he is at WR.
