    Aso21Raiders Mock Draft #2

    Aso21Raiders Mock Draft #1: http://www.vsngaming.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7417

    2009 NFL Mock Draft

    1. Detroit Lions: Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia

The lions are a rebuilding organization and it all starts at quarterback. He is the best available quarterback and even though underclassmen quarterbacks coming out don’t have a great success rate Stafford may be an exception with his 33 career starts.

    2. St. Louis Rams: Jason Smith, OT, Baylor

There are a lot of different ways the Rams could go with this pick. Wide reciever because Torry Holts career is on the downside so Crabtree could be in the mix for the second overall selection. He would also definitely help spark an offense ranked at 27th. Now of course with a defensive head coach Aaron Curry, the best defensive player in this years draft, is also a possibility to be selected here.

But i think that with the offensive line being atrocious the past couple of years and with the injury proned Orlando Pace at 33 years old and a pretty big contract Smith could be the man to replace the future hall of famer.

    3. Kansas City Chiefs: Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest

The Chiefs defense was ranked 31st, so without a doubt they'll go defense with this pick. They were last in the league in sacks with 10 so many would predict them picking a defensive end, such as Texas' Brian Orakpo here. I would disagree with that. Glenn Dorsey will be better season two and they'll be healthier at the defensive end spot. Defensive end is definitely a need though, but for a later round.

I think the Chiefs will pick Aaron Curry here because he is the best defensive player in this years draft. He can play all three linebacker positions so that would give the Chiefs flexibility. Curry would be surrounded by linebackers Derrick Johnson and Donnie Edwards and could quite possibly form one of the best linebacking cores in the NFL.

    4. Seattle Seahawks: Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

The Seahawks don't have a #1 reciever and really need one. Almost all of their starting offense was injured at some point last year so offense looks to be the pick here. Crabtree looks just too good for the Seahawks to pass up.

    5. Cleveland Browns: Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas

What amazes me is that the Cleveland Browns pass defense was ranked 14th and yet they didn't have a pass rush all season and recorded only 17 sacks. With a pass rushing outside linebacker such as Brian Orakpo the Browns defense could be quite dangerous.

    6. Cincinnati Bengals: Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

The Bengals offensive line needs some help. They started to gel at the end of last year blocking in the run game. But quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick didn't have much time to pass the ball last year and pass protection is a very important asset to the Bengals if they hope to win a division with the Ravens and Steelers defense in it and then quarterback Carson Palmer coming off of an injury. There are also reports coming out of Cincinnati that offensive tackle, Levi Jones could be cut so they'll need someone to start in his place.

    7. Oakland Raiders: Andre Smith, OT, Alabama

The Raiders offensive tackles were horrid in 2008. Jamarcus Russell needs more talent around him to develop. Kwame Harris, the bust in San Francisco ended up being a bust in Oakland too. He was terrible in pass protection and also led the league in false start penalties. Cornell green was second in the league in false start penalties and is better suited to be a backup. Mario Henderson played well and they need another good tackle.

    8. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri

The Jaguars don’t have many productive wide receivers. They have many tall possession receivers but Maclin could be a very good contrast to those receivers. He is very fast and getting a good receiver like Maclin could be another way to help out the running game by stretching the field vertically.

    9. Green Bay Packers: Malcom Jenkins, CB, Ohio St.

Charles Woodson is 32 and Al Harris, coming off a spleen injury is 34. They need youth at cornerback and Jenkins looks to be the top cornerback prospect.

    10. San Francisco 49ers: Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss

With tackle Jonas Jennings on the back end of his career the 49ers will be looking tackle, Oher can be the tackle to replace him.

    11. Buffalo Bills: Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State

Trent Edwards played poorly at the end of last year and drafting a very good tight end like Brandon Pettigrew will help him plenty. Pettigrew is not a burner at the tight end position but that looks to be his only downside. He is a big target and a great run blocker which makes him very worthy of this pick.

    12. Denver Broncos: BJ Raji, NT, Boston College

The Broncos have cleaned house defensively and with Mike Nolan being brung in to run his 3-4 scheme they must address their number one need at nose tackle after releasing Dewayne Robertson.

    13. Washington Redskins: Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee

Even with the trade for Jason Taylor the Redskins struggled to get a pass rush. They need an upgrade over Taylor who got 3.5 sacks in 13 games and Carter who got 4 sacks in 16 games. This will also give them depth and make the #4 defense even better.

    14. New Orleans Saints: Brian Cushing, OLB, USC

The defense has not performed well even with all the off-season acquisitions of last year. They did have injuries but it makes sense to me to upgrade the outside linebacker spot. If the secondary could stay healthy, and with Cushing here, the Saints should be legitimate Superbowl contenders in possibly the hardest division in the 2009 season.

    15. Houston Texans: Everette Brown, DE, Florida St.

The Texans defense played poorly in 2008. Bringing in another defensive end along with their new defensive coordinator could put a lot of heat on opposing quarterbacks. Brown would play along with former first round picks Amobi Akoye, Travis Johnson, and Mario Williams. It would also make sense for the texans to select a cornerback here with the Texans slapping the franchise tag on Dunta Robinson.

    16. San Diego Chargers: Ray Maualuga, ILB, USC

Many predict the Chargers to take a running back here but with Darren Sproles being franchise tagged and picking a running back here would be too much money to pay for one position are both good reasons against that decision. Tomlinsons and Sproles future is uncertain past this season but it looks as if the Chargers will eventually try to sign Sproles to a long term deal after the 2009 season to make him their eventual starter.

The Charges 25th ranked defense could use an upgrade at the inside lineback position. They don't have any real elite player at that position.

    17. New York Jets: Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU

The Jets have too many young quarterbacks to draft another here. The Jets need to sign a veteran quarterback. They could use depth at defensive end and an upgrade. Jackson is scheme diverse so he would be perfect for what Rex Ryan wants to do.

    18. Chicago Bears: Percy Harvin, WR, Florida

The Bears have released receiver Marty Booker and the receivers they do have are too inconsistent.

    19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers

The Buccaneers will release Michael Clayton, Joey Galloway is 37, and Antonio Bryant has been franchise tagged. The Buccaneers need another receiver and Britt is the best available at this spot.

    20. Detroit Lions: Eben Britton, OT, Arizona

The Lions line is bad. Getting another offensive lineman first round needs to be a priority. They got their franchise quarterback now they need to give him the tools to succeed.

    21. Philadelphia Eagles: Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia

The Eagles Brian Westbrook has failed to stay healthy the past couple of seasons and the Eagles have had trouble in short yardage situations. Knowshon Moreno is a back with power and quickness that would flourish in spelling Westbrook and getting the tough yards when they're needed.

    22. Minnesota Vikings: Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois

It may be a surprise he falls to here but if he does i don't think the Vikings would even hesitate with the pick.

    23. New England Patriots: Larry English, DE/OLB, Northern Illinois

The Patriots got an aging defense. They took the first step in getting youth last year with the picks of Mayo and Guyton. Now with Roosevelt Colvin, Adalius Thomas, and Mike Vrabel all over the age of 30 i think English would be the pick here. He is a phenomenal pass rusher already and would learn from the best.

    24. Miami Dolphins: DJ Moore, CB, Vanderbilt

The Dolphins could use a better cornerback opposite of Will Allen. The only other pick i could see here is an outside linebacker.

    25. Atlanta Falcons: Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut

Their best cornerback in Foxworth is going to be a free agent and Chris Houston has been average at best.

    26. Baltimore Ravens: Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest

With the rise of cornerback Fabian Washington the Ravens were forced to release McAlister. Corey Ivy's contract is up and with the aging Rolle, cornerback is a big need for the Ravens here.

    27. Indianapolis Colts: Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi

The Colts need a bigger defensive tackle. They have too many undersized ones and with Jerry they could be so much better at stopping the run.

    28. Philadelphia Eagles: William Beatty, OT, Connecticut

The Eagles have both of their starting offensive tackles contracts expiring and they need someone to replace one of them because they don't have much of anybody to do so other than former second round pick from USC, Winston Justice. Even though Beatty may not be worthy of this pick, the run on tackles will force the Eagles to select Beatty here.

    29. New York Giants: Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina

Burress likely won't be back, Toomer is getting older and isn't as good as he used to be and they didn't fare well without that true #1 on the field.

    30. Tennessee Titans: Derrius Heyward Bey, WR, Maryland

I think Jason Jones will do fine replacing Albert Haynesworth if he's not resigned. They need another wide receiver. He would open up the run game even more because of his deep threat ability and eventually Vince Young will be taking over and he needs a great receiver to compensate for his lack of accuracy.

    31. Arizona Cardinals: Aaron Maybin, DE/OLB, Penn St.

The Cardinals have lost three good edge rushers to free agency. Maybin looks to be a steal at #31 and can fill their need perfectly.

    32. Pittsburgh Steelers: Max Unger, C, Oregon

The Steelers line needs help. No tackles that are left are going to be picked here so i see the Steelers taking the best available lineman and that being Max Unger.

I think running his 40 time is a mistake. He's not going to run real fast anyways and he could quite possibly re-injure himself running. Other than that i don't think the injury will matter any. The Seahawks offense just hasn't been any good since the 2005 season. I think Crabtree could be what they need.

The defense does have their problems and Raji could fix a lot of them but i just think the offense is more important for them at this point.

pretty good...I thought you would wait a little longer to update...i personally HATE Pettigrew at #11 to the Bills...Idk why Kiper also selected that...Its way too high IMO i mean Vernon Davis got the pass cuz he was a freak but Pettigrew is just very very solid can run block and catch but idk about top 15 picks...

But its not bad...I do have a very strong feeling that the Raiders will go with a big name position player...just a hunch cuz of Al...and I'm not liking Smith a lot of talk about his work ethic and character issues could mean trouble...

Yea thats true. Virtually the same except Vernon can run a 4.35, 40 yard dash time and Pettigrew runs in the 4.8's. I just think the reason they fell towards the end of the season was because Trent Edwards got injured and when JP Losman filled in for him he played bad. Then when Trent came back he wasn't the same quarterback. I don't think they'll draft a quarterback so i thought the pick makes sense because that'll give him one more target to throw to.

Cushing could be a nice addition, but the thing with saints fans is he kind od reminds of scott fujita. He could be better than fujita, but as of now he looks like he could end up being a clone of him.

I doubt Detroit takes a QB in the first round...

I think they'll either take a O-Lineman or Trade Down. Hell look at the Tagged players that has the first round tender.

                        Otha than that good mock

Well i think there is a great possibility that detroit takes Stafford. They have already had a personal meeting and had lunch with him. I have the Lions taking a lineman, Eben Britton, at 20th overall and i believe they'll go defense with the #33 overall pick (probably defensive end).

You really see your Raiders drafting Andre Smith? At this rate Andre might be tanking himself into the late first round, early second. Scouts are dropping him fast.

I still see crazy Al getting infatuated with a Jeremy Maclin or something. That's just me though.

Whoa he won't drop that far. Trust me. He just wasn't prepared for the drills at the combine. He is in shape just didn't practice the combine drills. Yes it could of easily been avoided but teams won't pass up the most talented tackle in this years draft.
