David Garrard released, Luke McCown new starter

Not bad enough to have an awful season...not good enough to make the playoffs. David Garrard is the definition of mediocre.

Mediocre is the worst spot to be in in the NFL.

Now, lets hope the Jags tank the season and end up with a Top 5 pick. This team is in dire need of an infusion of top talent, none of this base hit bullshit with "good" but not great players or prospects and then fill out the rest of the draft with disposable small school guys that aren't on the team in three years.

The funny part of all of this is the team can't sell tickets right now so they cut the starting QB days before the season which basically tells us that the front office thinks we have no chance of competing. Yeah I'm sure people are lined up for season tickets now to watch Luke McCown drive us into the ground. I really think that they need to start Gabbert right away, no way is he worse than Luke and it will add a little more excitement to the team. Oh well, time to be frustrated on Sundays for another year. I mean I don't think Garrard would of lead this team to the playoffs but it at least gave some fans some false hope and made them buy some tickets.

McCown has some skills. He's not great, but he's not Jake Delhomme last year bad. Garrard was over-paid and was never going to win them anything. Might as well save some cash while never going anywhere and waiting for Gabbert who may or may not be the answer either. Call me crazy, but I don't think there's a giant difference between Garrard and McCown anyway.

On another note, the media is blowing this shit up like Jacksonville is gonna lose every game this season and the locker room is in shambles. Garrard is a straight up asshole. He threw his receivers under the bus when he had a bad game and never accepted the fact that he wasn't a good QB. McCown at least will keep this team competitive week in and week out until he is eventually replaced sometime early to mid season.

Jack Del Rio says Garrard's 3 INTs in Monday's practice was final straw following last season and preseason during a conference call today. Del Rio also indicated if Luke McCown had not been injured last season, he would have gotten a chance to start.
