So What Should Big 12 Schools Do ? Say No to Super Conferences

Yeah, financially-speaking, it doesn't make sense for the teams in existing BCS conferences to bolt and join a larger BCS conference. Its really just a reaction to fear...you don't want to be that last team without a chair when the music stops.

What is interesting to me is that if there ends up being 4 superconferences with 16 or 18 teams in them (PAC16, BIG18, ACC, SEC), then you pretty much already have a postseason playoff set up. Just take the 4 superconference champions, and play them against each other in a 4 team tournament.

Also once you get those 4 superconferences, it's possible they break from the NCAA and form their own organization. Basically as you said they have a playoff system set up and they really wouldn't have a need for a regulatory commission like the NCAA.

What does the NCAA do, besides hand out punishments? The leagues are already stronger than the NCAA, the NCAA doesn't even have the balls to crown an official champion.

These power schools already tried once to buck the NCAA with the whole CFA thing in the 80's, where they cut their own TV deals, etc. It fell apart. The NCAA is afraid to get into a power play, but I wish they would step up and challenge these guys. It's getting out of hand.

If the super conferences happen it's game over for the NCAA.

They already have some of their own TV deals (even down to a team level) so yeah at the moment they are basically paying to occasionally get slapped on the wrist and buy into a really outdated retarded postseason format.

Its my understanding that the NCAA really has no power, legally. The schools comprise the NCAA, and they abide by the NCAA rulings. Its more like an autonomous collective than a "dictatorship". The schools could ignore the NCAA and with no legal ramifications.
