Does Villanova have the stadium size/ticket sales to even qualify for Division I football? I think those have always been their stumbling blocks in the past.

I've been saying for years that the Big East should invite Army & Navy, at least for football. Its a natural fit, and Air Force under Fisher DeBerry and Navy for the last decade have proven that the right coach can still win at the academies.
And good for Villanova, staying loyal. There were whispers earlier this week they were flirting with the ACC. Then again, maybe the ACC told them to get lost.Comment

If I were to just type freely here they might be looking for some sort of promise from the Big East before they expand their stadium seating (I think their stadium is >15,000) and put the pieces in place to actually get their program to the D1 level. It typically takes a multi-year plan for these D1AA schools to lay the groundwork for the eventual move to a D1 conference, including a few years of transitional non-conference affiliation play (aka limbo) but before they do that, they get something worked out with a conference.
UMass is making the move to the MAC, and while I think McGuirk Stadium is bigger, it isn't by much, but they've had a plan for a few years now to make the move to the MAC. Same for South Alabama to the Sun Belt and the new WAC schools (Texas State, for one, I know has been in the making for a while).Comment

So ACC wants Uconn but only if ND commits too.
A source close to the ACC told Kevin Nathan that the ACC wants UConn and Notre Dame and likely won't make a move on the Huskies until the Irish commit either way.Comment
