Aaron Rodgers greatest passer ever ? (according to Joe Theisman)

Greatest ever is quit the stretch, but he is definitely one of the current best.
There comes a point where it really doesn't matter who is the best or who is better. The thing that really matters is, does the guy have the ability to take you to a championship and win it. That's why I'm not disappointed that we don't have Brady or Manning, and it really doesn't matter to me if Rodgers is better than they are (to me anyways), cause Rodgers is definitely good enough to take a team there and win it.
He is one of the top QB's in the league. You guys can have Brady, Manning, Brees, Rivers. You're teams are in good hands with them, but I'm absolutely thrilled to have Rodgers.Comment

Barry Sanders and Gale Sayers are the best pure runners ever. I doubt anyone would argue.
You say theyre the two best running backs its a different story.

As for Thiesmann's comments, he always had a weird way of talking. Justin Verlander is the greatest pitcher of all time "when it comes to pitching the baseball". Whatever.
That said, I agree with others that say Rogers has great mechanics. Compare that to a guy like Marino, who had terrible mechanics but a rocket arm. But I don't know what Rogers gains from that.Best reason to have a license.

I would disagree, because its the passing thing that sets the QB position apart from other positions. Gwynn still has to hit for power and field his position, Houston still has to pass and play defense, but Rogers being the best passer in history is sort of above those two examples. It would be like saying Dominik Hasek is the best goalie ever at "blocking shots", or Morten Andersen is the best kicker ever at "kicking field goals".Comment

Knowing the offense
Reading the defense
Making adjustments to the line
Seeing the same thing your WRs are seeing
Adjusting your backs for blitz pickups
Selling the snap count
Selling the play action or draw
Going through progression
Not panicking under pressure
Taking a hit
Protecting the ball
Resolving a broken play or getting out of the pocket when necessary
Knowing which WR to throw to and what spots to avoid once the ball is snapped
Thats alot of things a QB has to do before "planting your feet and delivering an accurate throw" comes into place. Guys like David Carr and Carson Palmer come to mind as guys whos mechanics were all over the place but in a bubble would deliver these gorgeous accurate throws. But once the other factors came into place erratic was the word of the day. Considering Michael Vicks and McNabbs success with terrible ability to consistently put the ball exactly where it needs to be , or Romos critics despite nearly always putting the ball where it needs to be but screwing up by fumbling or throwing a dumb screen before the half. Being the best passer doesnt equate the best QB.Best reason to have a license.

who has the best mechanics of the play action pass? is it still Boomer?Liquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

Boomer was great . My personal preference was Steve Deberg. He would fool the camera man all the time. The fact noone was scared of his arm and people knew he had to hand it off probably made it an easy sell also.Best reason to have a license.

The sign that you have been with the same forum people too long: when two guys argue (in this case KOF and Senser) and it feels like watching your parents fight.
Also, Peyton Manning is the best pure passer when it comes to passing the ball.Comment

another reason Aaron is such a good passer is because the Packers brought him when he was ready, not before hand, like most of the league has to do with various players.
the way it should be...unlike now where too many rookies and second year players get early starts and really dont know their craft at all.
early on, a QB didnt start till he knew the offense or at least a damn good majority of it...we constantly hear now " we slimmed down the playbook for him"...that means to me, he really isnt that good and doesnt know what he is doing.
Rodgers was brought in the right way = when he was ready. He had time to perfect mechanics and play call memory.Comment

Many say throw him into the fire...I agree. You bring a guy along slow let him see a professional at work , see what goes into playcalling /adjusting /managing your guys from the sidelines etc. See how someone else handles the ups and downs. The on the job training can happen whenever you like but the other stuff always comes slower.
Heck IMO Id wait till week6-10 to start a rookie QB. Ease the pressure and give him some games to learn w.o risk of failure.Best reason to have a license.

It's a situational thing. I think for some people, the game just comes naturally. Every rookie is going to make mistakes, but it's just like going to work. No, you're not going to get it at first, but once you get into rhythm, everything slows down and you're ready. Those who are shellshocked were never really ready for it, in my mind.
Rodgers is definitely the best passer in the NFL right now. Monster arm, remarkable accuracy, great mechanics. He's like Peyton Manning + athleticism - footwork - intelligence. And that's not say Aaron Rodgers isn't intelligence, but no one in the game comes close to Peyton's football IQ.
Also, I think Peyton might be the best play faker currently. Esiason might be the best I've ever seen though.
