Well, I think I know how to shed a little more light on this.
If Ryan Fitzpatrick is a backup/starter (depending on your argument), what do you consider Matt Schaub, Tavaris Jackson, or Alex Smith to be?

He's been looking good but I'm not sold yet, he's played against the Chiefs and Raiders. :laugh:Comment

dave, you can't be a real person.
I did not describe 20 NFL starters. I do not think guys like Jason Campbell or Tavaris Jackson or Luke McCown or Kyle Orton fit this description at all, and do not think they are ideal backups. Guys like Bradford, Stafford, McCoy, Newton, etc are obviously not "ideal backups" because they are young and developing, need to play, and we don't know what they are yet.
I described Ryan Fitzpatrick, and maybe what somebody like Alex Smith should have been at worst, but he continues to suck.
I'M NOT SAYING FITZPATRICK SHOULDN'T BE STARTING, and of course teams are dealing with the cards they are dealt. What is your point?
First, Kyle Orton is an ideal backup. He is intelligent, doesn't make too many mistakes, and has a decent enough arm to be an NFL QB. I would guess that Orton is going to stick around the NFL for a long time.
Second, why the hate for Ryan Fitzpatrick? Number 14 has had success wherever he's been. How many starting jobs does a guy have to win to be considered a "starting NFL QB"? I've watched Number 14 for many years, and he's always managed to win with poor surrounding talent. Give him DeSean Jackson, J. Macklin, and Shady McCoy and Mike Vick is just another gangbanger with speed.
I'm 100% with Dave on this. It IS faster to type "fag" than "Warner2BruceTD!Comment
