QB Grade = B-
Cutler has had good games and bad games. He’s cut down on his turnovers somewhat (although he is still turnover prone), but he’s still way too inconsistent for my taste. Probably due to his weak supporting cast. I was going to give him a C, but his heroic effort against the Lions gave him bonus points.
RB Grade = A+
Grade is solely due to Matt Forte. Marion Barber is finally healthy enough to get some carries, but he was a huge disappointment at the start of the year. Forte looks really good this year. Uses his blockers well and getting more big plays.
WR Grade = D
Sanzenbacher and even Hester have been pleasant surprises, but the overall grade is unsatisfactory because of Roy Williams’ suckage. Funny how 4 catches for minimal yardage and a TD is somehow “great” for this waste of space.
TE Grade = F
Spaeth is a big upgrade over Manama-useless in the blocking department, but Kellen Davis has been terrible in all aspects of the game. Not much hope for improvement in this area.
Offensive Line Grade = F
Sorry, but not falling into the 2010 trap of thinking “Hey, these guys aren’t as bad as they used to be…” They are still horrendous, and major upgrading needs to occur before the Bears become a legit contender.
Defensive Line Grade = B
I think we learned that as Peppers goes, so does the line. Henry Melton has been disappointing. Paea is finally playing. Okoye is playing above expectations. Idonije is not having that huge year as predicted. But still an effective group.
Linebackers Grade = B
Urlacher is still a stud. Briggs has easily had his worst season in a number of years, but its still above-average. Roach is just holding a roster spot until someone better comes along. Similar to the defensive line, this group isn’t overpowering but it is effective.
Secondary Grade = C
I think this is a fair grade. At times, the secondary has played above expectations. At other times, they look lost. We saw both aspects in the Tampa game alone. It would be nice if Chris Conte could develop into a solid pro. This group needs help, but has held their own thus far.
Special Teams Grade = A+
Hester continues to amaze. Robbie Gould is very reliable (remember Paul Edinger?). Podlesh has done a credible job as Maynard’s replacement. This area is still a big strength for the Bears.
