I guess thats huge point me & others disagree with, i would count the conf championship games as the beginning of the playoffs.

Ok, that's fair if you think that but it just seems like it's REALLY unfavorable to conferences like the SEC. They are going to have a ridiculously tough "1st round" game while Boise State plays a cake game in "round 1". LSU this season would deserve a much easier 1st round game because that's how playoffs work for the most part. If you are the #1 seed you get it easy in round one. Alabama is anything but an easy round 1 opponent.

true but i wouldnt propose boise state get in automatically. id only have the top 6 ranked conf champs get in. and while its true some will have tougher games than others, theres really no other way to narrow down the field other than by conference.

Ok, then you need to just play everyone in your Conference once a season. THAT is your schedule. You get a Conf Champ based off tie breakers. Makes every game count a LOT. Top 8 or 4 conference champs in a playoff.

The whole playing twice and settling nothing thing rubs me really wrong. If LSU wins then we already knew they were better. If Alabama wins it just means they both won once. That just rubs me so wrong. One meeting a year makes that game so so so important.

But dont you realize this already happens? As it is teams play during the regular season & meet again in the conf championship, it happened just last year with Auburn & South Carolina for the SEC. If South Carolina had won the season series woulda been split but SC woulda been the SEC champ. This scenario already happens.

                Three game series, bitches.

So whats so bad about wishing they could meet for the SEC title?

So take a page out of what the Pac 10 used to do. NO Conference Championship.

Just play everyone in your conference once and let the tie breakers decide.

You can have a playoff after the regular season and get more great games & determine a better champion in my opinion.
My question to you would be, if you want it more like the NFL than why would you want to disregard the division format and just take the best 2 teams in the conference?

Take the NFL in 2010 for example. Under your provisions, it would be like saying "I know the Seahawks won their division, but the Buccaneers had a better record, so they will get the playoff nod.

It wouldn't be like the NFL. As a matter of fact, it's probably closer to the current BCS format if you want to know the truth.

I love the idea of top 2 per conference for the playoffs

That's fine. But my problem with Zone's point is that he kind of flip flops with his argument. On one side he says he wants college football to mirror pro football. But then, in the same post, he will denounce the idea of divisional play and just want the 2 best teams in the conference, which is not close to how the NFL handles their playoff system.

I'm in favor of a playoff system. However, if you are going with the BCS system, and every pro BCS guy will scream that it makes the regular season more meaningful, than for me, Alabama and Oregon are out until LSU is no longer in the championship picture.

I agree with both points. Especially the fact that Alabama and Oregon have no business playing LSU in the NC.

                            3 problems:

                            1) Too many teams = with so many teams deserving of a title shot, having two teams play each other twice is the ultimate circle jerk.

                            2) Too few games = the schedule is too short to accomodate rematches. Even within conferences, there aren't enough games.

                            3) No postseason tournament = with only 2 teams having a chance to win the title in the current postseason setup, allowing non-divisional winners to continue to play meaningful postseason games further limits the pool of potential title winners.

Why don't you let it play out, bruh...at the beginning of the season, it was Oklahoma destined to be in the title game, Boise was going undefeated, et al.

LSU still needs to play Arkansas and then Georgia...two Top 15 teams (both may be Top 10 when they play LSU)...Oklahoma State still needs to play Oklahoma in the defacto Big XII Championship Game. Lots of time to let things play out.

I would love LSU and OK St to lose a game a piece and watch the pandemonium ensue. You thought Sandusky got a lot of run on sports radio???
