Why do we need divisions if we are just gonna pick the two highest ranked teams at the end of the season?

And if we don't have divisions then, why do we need a championship game?

Im guessing divisions are good for scheduling & rivarly purposes. I dont care if they stay or go. Its like what was proposed last year that the NFC West be omitted from the playoffs because the Seahawks record sucked.
