    Vrabel trade confirmed

as reported by NFL.com blogs (blogs.nfl.com) and http://www.boston.com/sports/footbal..._trade_co.html

When reached via e-mail, Patriots outside linebacker Mike Vrabel confirmed that he has been dealt to the Kansas City Chiefs, as first reported by the NFL Network.

In response to an e-mail that asked, "Have you been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs?" Vrabel responded with a one-word answer: "Yes."
And so ends his eight-year career with the Patriots, which includes three Super Bowl titles and the only Pro Bowl berth of his career, which came in 2007, when he had 12.5 sacks, the most by a Patriot since 1987 and the most by a Patriots player under coach Bill Belichick.

Vrabel, who will turn 34 in August, finished fifth on the Patriots in tackles last season with 67, according to coaches' calculations, but his sack number dropped to four. He also had an interception.

Vrabel denied rumors that he was hampered by a shoulder injury that was affecting his production.

He was acquired by someone who knows him well: Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli is of course the former player personnel director for the Patriots.

A veteran of 12 NFL seasons, Vrabel, who signed with the Patriots as a free agent in 2001, was entering the last year of his current contract and was due to make $2.2 million in base salary, but count $4.3 million against the cap. It's possible his trade was done with an eye towards creating more cap space for the Patriots.

It is uncertain what the Patriots will receive in return for Vrabel, though ESPN's John Clayton is reporting it is an undisclosed draft choice.

Cassel expected to be dealt to Chiefs

as reported by NFL.com blogs (blogs.nfl.com)

The Kansas City Chiefs appear to have found their starting quarterback. NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs are expected to trade for New England Patriots QB Matt Cassel on Saturday.

The teams have agreed on compensation, according to Schefter, but no details of the deal were immediately available.

Cassel was designated as the Patriots’ franchise player on Feb. 5, guaranteeing him $14.65 million next season. The signed tender was officially submitted to the league earlier this week.

Cassel saw the first significant action of his career last season, taking over as the starter for the injured Tom Brady in Week 2 and starting 15 games, completing 63.4 percent of his passes for 3,693 yards and 21 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

Cassel would see some familiar faces in Kansas City. Schefter also reports Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel wasin Kansas City on Friday undergoing a physical so that he can then be traded to the Chiefs. Vrabel later confirmed the trade in an email to The Boston Globe. Cassel and Vrabel would be playing for new Chiefs GM Scott Pioli, who was hired in January to oversee the team’s football operations after nine seasons in New England.

Looks like KC may have found something here.

Kansas City had Thigpen who wasn't bad. Cassel looked good because of the weapons on the Pats. KC doesn't make this trade if Pioli isn't their GM.

Then Kansas City fans better be thankful Pioli is their GM, and not a person like you.

stats from an interior lineman mean almost nothing. I can't remember more than 2 DT's who got a lot of sacks consistently.

Haynesworth is the best DT in the game. Watch him play sometime.

When healthy and motivated, he is the most disruptive defensive force in football. Even on plays where he doesnt get sacks he is blowing up lineman and putting pressure on the qb or stuffing a run in the backfield.

I cant hate Albert for making that cake, but i hope he stays hungry after he's already got it locked up.

Kurt Warner is scheduled to visit the 49ers on Monday.

If Arizona is going to step up, they need to do it soon. Personally, I'm pulling for the 49ers in this situation. Kurt Warner vs. Leinart/Fitz/Boldin? Classic.

Stats mean alot in the NFL. He has had career years when in a contract year. Thats it. IMO he isnt the best in the NFL, and wasnt worth the money from the skins.

                      2002 30 tackles 1 sack
                      2003 32 tackles 2.5 sacks
                      2004 36 tackles 1 sack
                      2005 52 tackles 3 sacks
                      2006 30 tackles 2 sacks
                      2007 40 tackles 6 sacks
                      2008 51 tackles 8 sacks

2008 was a contract year, and he showe up to play.

                        Exactly.

Look nothing against him, he's a hell of a player. But guys tend to show up and play during contract years. But 100 mill for a guy that hasnt had more than 8 sacks in a season..crazy.

You missed the point. I know stats mean a lot in the NFL, when did I say they didn't? However they mean significantly less when the player is a defensive tackle. Very few defensive tackles are regularly putting up high sack numbers. He is extremely disruptive when motivated, which I believe he will be for Washington.

You can't name 1 defensive tackle who's better than Haynesworth when he's on his game.
