Miami coach Al Golden agree to deal through 2020 season

MIAMI -- Al Golden insists he wanted to make a long-term commitment to Miami. The Hurricanes happily obliged.

Golden is now under contract with the Hurricanes through Feb. 1, 2020, the announcement coming Friday during a 24-17 loss to Boston College.

Four more years have been tacked onto the deal Golden signed with Miami this past spring -- a move the coach hopes is enough to end whatever speculation exists about him being potentially wooed elsewhere anytime soon.

"For the players and recruits, we've only said the same thing now for weeks," Golden said. "And again, whether or not anybody outside wanted to listen to what we were saying, our message never changed. And now it's officially not going to change."

The timing of the announcement was somewhat unusual -- the university released the news with about 12 minutes to go in the game.

Miami is not going to a bowl game because of an ongoing NCAA investigation into the athletic department and compliance practices, a probe born after a former booster said he provided 72 Hurricane players and recruits with extra benefits from 2002 through 2010.

I'm glad that he's staying. It would have sucked to see him jump ship so soon.

His stock will drop tho if he doesnt improve this fucking team ASAP. I didn't really see this coming after hearing he was upset that he had no clue about the Shapiro stuff and felt like it sabotaged his season.

I dont get all the hype about Golden, he just led his team to a mediocre underachieving 6-6 season, same thing Randy Shannon was doing every year.

As long as he continues to lose to FSU I dont care how long he stays.

Had to sign him to an extension even though he hasn't earned one yet. Necessary considering many things.

              - He wasn't exactly informed about the Nevin Shapiro allegations and NCAA investigation in a manner he should have been.

              - Considering the sudden opening at Penn State, its bad PR to continually have your head coach's name in the discussion for the job where its compared and contrasted in the media. Having the media justify a school that harbors and enables a pedo being a better option for your head coach is poor PR for a school that is living off a branding thats dated 10 years ago.

              - Golden did his end of the PR this week saying he's not going anywhere...now the school did its part by giving him a token extension. Good for recruiting going forward.

With all that said...I want to see him win games. This season was pretty poor and the team overall lacks real players.

              Just win.

He has to get back to recruiting the state and has to win that against the two other schools, THIS year he isn't doing it and they have a lot of 3 stars and looking real poor.

                  Maybe this helps
