Jacksonville Jaguars Sold, "reportedly will keep the team in Jacksonville"

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Reports are coming out that the Jaguars today will announce not only the firing of head coach Jack Del Rio, but also the sale of the team.

As reported on Twitter by ESPN reporters, Jacksonville Jaguars employees have already been told of the sale, the terms of which reportedly will keep the team in Jacksonville.

Sports Director Dan Hicken said Shahid Khan has purchased the team, as confirmed by two sources within the Jaguars organization.

The Jaguars have a news conference scheduled for noon, and First Coast News will carry it live.

NFL owners are just one step above politicians and used car salesmen in terms of what they will say to get what they want.

You have the second biggest US market available, and a team in a relatively tiny market gets sold and is staying? Seriously? Do these people actually want to make money?

They'll be in LA by 2020.

And the Sonics were going to stay in Seattle after Bennett purchased them.

            Right.

lol they didn't buy the team so they could lose money like the now former owners, herp derp.

They are only saying so to prevent empty stadiums, further lack of interest/merch sales, until it's official. This isn't that hard to see lol.

I recall hearing because it's a military city there would be a ton of NFL fans, cept all those guys stayed true to their own teams.

Perhaps I'm just making this up?

Those NFL expansion derbies in the early to mid 90s are actually pretty fascinating stories. Between Baltimore, Memphis, and a few other cities all trying to secure a franchise it got pretty wild.

I can't remember the exact justification for Jacksonville but one day I hope someone writes a book on NFL expansion in the 90s. So many franchises that ALMOST came into existence, like the St. Louis Stallions, the Baltimore Bombers and the Memphis Hounds.

Khan was saying the same shit when he nearly bought the Rams last year. He is running, not walking, to LA as soon as he can.

From what I remember, underwhelming bids from other cities caused some in the NFL to encourage Jacksonville to reinforce their bid for the franchise.

This area though, is very hard to gain traction. There is a lot of transplanted people and there are other sports in the area. In addition, it is a huge area for college football, as the Gator Bowl is played there every year, as well as the UGA/Florida game.

I think they will stay in J'ville. We just have to get better. When we suck, no one goes to games. When we are actually doing good, we got full crowds. We just have not done "good" in a whiile
