This also has to mean that Brady is near 100%... right?

The New England Patriots have traded quarterback Matt Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel to Kansas City for the Chiefs' second-round pick in the 2009 draft, SI.com has learned.

The trade is expected to be announced this weekend.

The Patriots originally dealt Cassel to the Chiefs -- now run by former New England vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli -- on Friday for an undisclosed draft pick. Now it has been learned that the Chiefs will get both Vrabel and Cassel in exchange for the 34th overall pick in April's draft.

It's a stunning acquisition for Kansas City. Cassel, who never started a game at quarterback in his career at USC, was drafted in the seventh round of the 2005 draft when Pioli ran the New England personnel department. He relieved the injured Tom Brady in the first quarter of the 2008 season-opener -- against Kansas City -- and proceeded to have one of the best seasons of any quarterback in football. He was eighth in the league with 3,693 passing yards and 10th with an 89.4 quarterback rating.

The move leaves the Patriots with three second-round picks in the 2009 draft and, as usual, puts New England in position to be a power-broker on draft day. No team has more than New England's four first-day draft choices; the Pats also have their own pick in the first round.

And the move also leaves the Chiefs' top of the draft intact. They hold the third pick overall.
      Pats get robbed.

pretty sure he is. do you really think the Patriots would move Cassel if he was questionable?

cmon. there are few (if any) organizations in the NFL that manage their personnell better than the Patriots.

Theres no way Brady is anywhere near 100%. No way. The Pats handled the situation well, because they had to lose Cassell either way. They would either lose him to FA or franchise him and get something for him. They knew from the start that they couldnt keep two QBs making close to 15 mil a year.

That said, look at all the QBs that have had similar surgeries. Just recently McNabb and Palmer. Its going to take another season for him to look normal on the field. Ive had the same surgery, so I can tell you from first had experience that the mental part alone will cause him to not be himself at first.

Congrats chiefs...you just set your chise back a couple more years by picking up a system QB. Cassell has an average arm, so so coverage recognition, and the best thing going for him is his pocket preasence and footwork. Good thing he has the ability to run because he will be running for his life quite often behind this KC line if no changes are made to it. They would of been better off with thigpen imo...

Getting rid of Cassel and Vrabel the pats free up close to 20 million cap space. Cassel will be replace by Brady, the pats also really like Pierre Woods and could draft another pass rusher with 1 of their first 3, first day picks.

The Chiefs get their franchise quarterback and a good 3-4 OLB who has a couple years left for only a 2nd round pick.

A blockbuster deal for both teams. Especially for the Patriots.

The Pats (as much as I hate them) is smart as hell. You can put any QB with talent behind that Line and he'll dominate. Plus he had Moss to throw to...

The Pats knows that Brady will be ready in the Off Season and they'll draft a younger QB. The reason they tagged Cassel is because he looked sooo good (behind that line) that it put the NFL at awe. The Pats didnt really believe he could pull off winning 11 games. So basically they dressed him up real nice, made him valuable and the proof will show up in September. We will se then how he fairs. I personally hope he does good, but it's hard to judge a QB with a line like that.

They probably suckered someone into giving up a top 10 pick lmao...

Cassel doesn't need a good line to succeed. He is mobile and has some good weapons around him. I think if they get Crabtree with the 3rd pick they could have a top 5 offense in a division that really doesn't know how to play defense. Their defense is questionable though. Not much talent their.

The Chiefs will be an awesome Madden 2010 team.

with how ugly the AFC West was last year, the Chiefs could win the fucking thing. shitty defence or not.

Yeah Cassel is not a Pocket Passer at all. He likes to use his legs to by time a lot and holds onto the ball.
