Lions Tried to Trade for Cassell then Trade him for Jay Cutler

Lions tried to trade for Matt Cassell and then try and exchange Cassell for Cutler. Hopefully this means Detroit isnt sold on drafting a QB at top spot cause Stafford and Shanchez I think are not going to be good.

I was pretty surprised to hear this myself. And I agree with you Buzzman, I really hope we don't draft either QB with that first pick. Hell, I personally wouldn't mind getting Aaron Curry with that spot.

And then as far as Cassel is concerned, my opinions always been that he's a system quarterback and I'm really glad Detroit didn't get him as I just don't think he's gonna do well anywhere else but New England. I can't believe that Cutler's name was even brought up for a trade though, that certainly caught me off guard.

I don't get how people can be so sure that he's a system quarterback when he's only played in one system. That just doesn't make any sense.

Yes, it is hard to judge, but you can't just assume that he is a system quarterback because he played relatively well with a good team. That happens all the time. Someone claiming that he isn't a system QB is just as silly as someone claiming he is. Do you see my point?

I am not claiming that he is or isn't, i'm just saying its impossible to tell until we see it.

I think KC was perfect for Cassell because he will be in the same system as NE

They are not shopping him. The other teams contacted him.

That would have been a terrible move for the Lions. The Broncos are very interested in Cassel, but I don't think that they would give Cutler away for anything, especially since their game is primarily based on the passing attack. They are better off just keeping what they have and make some minor signings. During the draft the best move for them is to get a top non-QB with their 1st overall and then hope that Sanchez, Stafford, or even White to fall to them.

                      Best bet for Lions

                      Draft Aaron Curry #1

Dont draft a QB this draft

Start Culpepper, if he sucks, then we just draft QB next year since they will be a lot better. IDK bout most but I'd rather have McCoy or Bradford then these juniours

Cutler is a much more established QB than Matt Cassel. I don't see why the Broncos would do that.

Because of the releationship between McDaniels and Cassel.

I dont think 2 years of being a starter can define him as being a loser.

They also probably would because Cassel doesn't throw 20 picks a season. Cassel > Cutler.
