Agree and disagree. Granted ND's academic standards are higher but guys like Aaron Lynch and Robert Hughes still got into school there. What else hurt Notre Dame up until about 5 years ago is the lack of football facilities...and athletic facilites in general. Swarbrick has done a tremendous job the last few years and as much as he's hated by some still(for whatever reason) Weis had a huge hand in getting things like the training table started(something ND didn't have but 99.9% of schools did), he really helped push for The Gug(an amazingly beautiful facility) to be built, and other general facilities upgrades. ND is pumping in outside music now for games, and within the next few season ND will have a new playing surface(either field turf or the natural synthetic hybrid they use at Lambeau), we will also have a jumbo tron or two at the stadium. We are doing more with alternate jerseys and helmets. A neutral site gaeme most every season for the foreseeable future(2012 is in Ireland). ND was pretty stagnant from 1986-2004. In the last half decade we have taken some really nice steps forward as a program.

I think Notre Dame should be much higher than #20 but whatever this guy seemingly didn't research most of this stuff real well. it seems he looked at Name, conference, state and went from there.

LOL, research? It's a fantasy draft of coaching jobs, made up by one guy. It's completely subjective.

"I did consider two primary factors: a. the size of the athletic department and b. ability to recruit."

I'm sure 25 people would come up with 25 different lists. I really don't think 20 is that low for Notre Dame in 2011. I mean when was the last time Notre Dame even had a top 20 head coach? George O'Leary, Ty Willingham and Brian Kelly are not the types of names I expect to see landing a top 5 or top 10 job.

      Sorry bud, it's not 1975.

Ara Parseghian wasn't a big name back in the early 60's either. He was seen as a good coach at Northwestern but wasn't a marquee name.

O Leary and Willingham were the 2nd and 3rd choices for the job to begin with behind Gruden and Stoops. Don't even get me started on the Meyer thing in 2004-2005.

Brian Kelly was the top name out there for the job and he got it. Short of pulling Stoops away from Oklahoma, which was never going to happen...Kelly was the top choice. So not sure your point in bringing him up. If the Irish had whiffed on Kelly and ended up with Edsall or something you might have a point but Kelly was viewed as a tremendous coach and a great hire and was very well regarded.

It not being 1975 anymore isn't really the point.

          .
If that's true it's even more laughable.

Notre Dame recruits nationally really well(in a lot of sports..but particularly football). Say what you want about on the field results but Notre Dame has traditonally recruited nationally very well when they had a coach wanting to do so and wasn't more worried about his golf game...Davie...Ty..I'm looking at you...A few years ago Notre Dame was in the top 15 for AD department funding...and that has gone up recently with additions in the last few seasons to the football program as well as the brand new hockey facility they just built. The size of Notre Dame athletic department relative to their student population size compared to schools like OSU and Texas is right in line.
