Citing a source, Newsday reports that ILB Bart Scott will not be back with the Jets in 2012.
Scott is entering his age-32 season and his salary jumps to $5.6 million in 2012. It sounds like he'll be released. Scott's playing time dropped this year as he was removed from the Jets' nickel defense. Pro Football Focus still graded Scott as one of the league's premier run-stopping 3-4 inside 'backers, so his career shouldn't be over. He's just not an every-down player anymore, and needs to be held out of pass-coverage situations.
I think he's still a monster player. I'm not sure there are many ILB's that can blow up FB's on iso plays as well as he can.
Ray Lewis has stuck around for quite a bit and this is what he does. In no way, shape or form is Bart Scott finished. Some team, especially if they are a newer team to the 3-4, would love to add him to their defense.
I'm sure that they are either confident in the backups taking over, or finding someone in the draft or with free agency. Rex Ryan also has an ego, so if he is letting go of someone who he has coached for a long period of time, he already has a plan to replace him.
Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes "quit" on the team during the final two minutes of a 19-17 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday, a team source told ESPN NFL ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Ryan is also at fault here. He has created an environment that encourages loud mouthed attention whores and egos to go unchecked and it is now backfiring on them.
It's all great when you're winning, but if the Jets don't make the playoffs next season I can see a lot of fans calling for his head.
