Is Jeff Fisher the Rams Next Head Coach?

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, "it is all but certain" that Jeff Fisher will be the Rams' next head coach.

Usually a Chargers paper, the Union-Trib has had several recent Rams scoops because they've been targeting current Bolts GM A.J. Smith, and beat reporter Kevin Acee has followed the situation closely. It sounds like Fisher and Smith aren't a package deal, though. In this scenario, Fisher would likely be tabbed as head coach first, and then have say in the Rams' general manager hiring. With the Oilers (now Titans), Fisher was originally hired by current Patriots Senior Football Advisor Floyd Reese. If Reese is still up to it -- he's 64 -- it's conceivable that he'd be on St. Louis' short list of GM targets.

No way could Smith and Fisher co-exist. It would be Smith and Marty 2.0 again, and that turned out badly for both parties. I also think that Smith is pretty overrated as a GM- he's a great drafter and talent evaluator, but he's also played hardball and let a lot of good players go for nothing.

I think that the situation being described here could work. It is what the Redskins do, where Shanahan is the head coach and VP of football operations. He has the final say on football decisions, but there is also a GM who handles scout coordinating, contracts, etc. It is also how Bill Belichick and Scott Pioli operated. It just has to be two guys who know each other and can co-exist.

My three requirements for Rams head coach:

        1) Have prior NFL head coaching experience
        2) Draft Justin Blackmon
        3) Don't suck

I have said this in multiple threads.

The LAST person on the planet I want to get this job is Jeff Fisher.

          Anybody else. Anyone.

TBH, this makes me want Fischer more. I have enjoyed your post-Martz coaching rants.

Heard they wanted Les Snead as their GM. Hoping some of that Dimitroff genius rubbed off on him I guess.
