Raiders to interview Packers' McKenzie for GM

Green Bay Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie is interviewing for the Oakland Raiders general manager position Wednesday, an NFL source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Owner Al Davis, who died in October, had effectively served as the team's general manager until his death.

Former Packers general manager Ron Wolf strongly endorsed McKenzie for the Raiders' position in a November interview.

"Reggie's a tremendous evaluator," Wolf told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He can tell you who can play and who can't play. That's what it's all about. Some can write reports but can't tell you who can play. Whatever that is, he has that. He has a feel."

McKenzie played linebacker for the Raiders from 1985-88.

On Monday, Raiders coach Hue Jackson said he wanted to be involved in the team's search for a general manager.

"... I would hope that the organization understands that I have a pretty good idea of where we need to go. Because if not, then I shouldn't be where I'm sitting," Jackson said, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Jackson made the calls on personnel after Davis' death and ochestrated the blockbuster trade with the Cincinnati Bengals for quarterback Carson Palmer.

Oakland gave up a 2012 first-round pick to get Palmer, leaving them with picks in just the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2012 draft until compensatory picks are doled out. The Raiders also are without a 2013 second-rounder because of the deal.

If he can do a job resembling something like that of how well Green Bay has managed their roster I'd be very happy. Biggest problem right now though is finding a DC who doesn't completely suck.

Ex-Packers GM Ron Wolf and former Raiders personnel executive Ken Herock have been advising the Raiders while McKenzie has been discussing his future role and power within the organization for the last week. Green Bay's director of pro personnel since 1997, McKenzie learned from two of the best in Wolf and Ted Thompson. This could represent quite a "brain drain" on the Packers, as Wolf's son Eliot, assistant director of player personnel, was expected to join McKenzie. Oakland's days of sacrificing valuable draft picks for veterans on the decline are over.
Change the thread title ladies and gentlemen. Reggie McKenzie is in the building!

Could lead to Jackson being shitcanned if he's still whining about wanting more input into personnel decisions.

Heck of an endorsement from Ron Wolf. McKenzie would be a great addition to Raiders front office.
