USC and LSU should have played each other after Kansas State beat #1 Oklahoma in the B12 championship game 35-7, but instead OU played LSU due to having built such a large lead in the computer polls. USC blew out Michigan in the Rose Bowl and the AP voters chose them as their "champion". Coaches were contractually obligated to vote for LSU, which they all did except that clueless geezer Lou Holtz who voted for USC.

A lot of people disregarded LSU as champion and instead just kept talking about USC winning the AP championship. LSU would have beaten USC that year also

I think this year will be different just for the simple fact that this game is going to set up a rematch of a game we already saw....when there is another deserving 1 loss team.

Plus the heat on the BCS is a lot hotter than it was years ago anyways.

It's possible. Miami won the National Championship in 1991, but Washington finished first in the coaches poll, after winning the Rose Bowl. Essentially, Miami and UW were co-champions.

Though, the NCAA doesn't recognize Washington as the football champion in 1991.

Would it be possible for LSU to be ranked first in the coaches poll even if they were to lose to Alabama?

But if Alabama wins the NCG in New Orleans...then....

I guess another thing to ask you guys is if it plays out this way and Bama beats LSU by a FG or less than a TD then who would you give your #1 vote to? IMO LSU would still have a better body of work than probably any other school.

Whoever the Cartel tells me to vote for.

Honestly, if the game plays out the way the first meeting did...but Bama wins..I'd vote for........Houston when they win their bowl game and are undefeated.

                      Srs. I'd vote LSU.

Same mount of losses. Better resume.

Whatever. The whole state smells the same since Katrina anyways.

ESPN owns a ton of markets/channels and keeps saying that this game has to happen, they are shamelessly promoting it left and right...but i say, let it happen..something like this should push the idea of a playoff because who would stand for the BCS/NCAA saying 2 teams deserve a national championship from the same conference without proving themselves against other conferences? this is pathetic and another version of a fix...on another note, the all powerful NCAA said UCLA could sign a bowl waiver and be eligible for a bowl with a losing record LOL...thats like some dumb house rule while playing Monopoly against some cheater..just pathetic...that aside, I dont want bowls completely gone, having college football almost all December helps make the holidays for a football fan
