Could LSU lose to Alabama in the National Championship and still be #1?

Very confused.
So, lets say in next year's preseason AP Poll, we have Oregon #1 and Arkansas #2. Then, at the end of the regular season, those are the two teams we have facing off against each other in the title game.
Would you then conclude "we don't need to have a regular season, we could have picked the title game participants at the beginning of the year and then just played one game to determine this year's national champions"?
I don't understand this omnipotence that the pollsters seem to suddenly have.Comment

I'm not even sure this thread matters because we all know Alabama will award themselves some fucked up National Title win or lose.Comment

And we've been telling you that you are wrong..because so far..no one has agreed with you...or even come close to doing so in fact..as we've pointed out the actual way that the rematch came about is the EXACT REASON no one would have a problem with the rematch OR the winner!
But you didnt respond to my response to that, you ran to making polls like a homo.
I told you, LSU could still be seen as "superior" to Alabama, even if they lose in a playoff game. You could still make the same argument for LSU in that scenario as people do now. Thats why i told you its possible this could be an issue with a playoff.Comment

So what.
This massive outcry and issue and possible hand wringing occurs in no other sport on any relevant level. You thinking that it would all of a sudden be this huge issue in CFB is both laughable and flat out incorrect.Comment

How do you not understand that? We are talking about the UNDESERVING team winning the national title, not the deserving team winning the national title.
It would be like someone says "Did Willie Hernandez deserve the AL Cy Young award in 1984?", and you respond with "Justin Verlander DID deserve to win the AL Cy Young award in 2011."Comment

Ok and the same could be said for any playoff matchup ever..in any sport that has ever occurred or used a playoff of any kind.
So what.
That's not an "issue" with the playoff. If you feel that way then you'd have a problem with any playoff that could ever possibly result in a rematch and especially in a one and done scenario. I'm assuming you don't....so you're just being stupid again.

If people deem LSU superior to Alabama even after losing a playoff game, they can crown LSU champs. Its an issue, because the possibility is there. Thats my point.Comment

Thats awesome. Its like Martin Scorsese losing out on the Best Director Oscar, but two weeks later he receives a trophy at The People's Choice Awards.Comment

But the issue isn't "Does LSU deserve the title if they win?", the issue is "Does Alabama deserve the title if they win?"

People could say that LSU is MORE deserving than Alabama.
You guys are not understanding that.Comment

:obama:
It would not be a "major issue" as you state. In fact, it would be almost nothing..if it were anything...at all.

No..we understand it. You don'tComment

Thats like step 1 of the thought process. So, people say LSU is MORE deserving than Alabama because they went undefeated, beat Alabama at Bama, and then beat Alabama a second time in the national championship game.
Step 2 of the thought process is noticing "Hey, but people won't have a problem if LSU wins the title, the problem will occur if ALABAMA wins the national championship, despite having a worse record than LSU (12-1 vs. 13-1) and having lost to LSU at home.
Until you can get to Step 2 of the thought process, this discussion is pointless.Comment

Ill repeat my point again.
If Alabama beats LSU in a playoff, people could still vote LSU as #1 in the AP poll.
Why is this so hard to comprehend?Comment

We said it wouldn't be a "major issue" and would more than likely not even happen let alone be a "major issue" as you stated because no one would feel Alabama was underserving of 1. The rematch and 2. The title if they went through a playoff to get there because we see rematches in other sports and no one gives a shit, or cares, or sees it as a "major issue" because of the playoff format.Comment

They should also do away with the NCAA Basketball tournament, too, because its conceivable that the AP could still vote Butler as the national champion after they score 40 points in the title game?Comment
