Penn St. Hires Patriots Offensive Coordinator Bill O'Brian

Penn State is planning to meet Thursday with Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, a source familiar with the process told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Penn State has identified O'Brien as the coach it wants to succeed Joe Paterno. O'Brien is in the last year of his contract as New England's offensive coordinator.
It's clear if you want a head coaching job, you need to work with Bill Belichick. Can't believe how quickly each and every offensive coordinator is promoted in New England.

And its amazing how all of his coordinators have been complete failures as head coaches. Its not exactly the Coaching Tree you want to be picking apples from.

Agreed 100%. People still not realizing most of the production comes from the roots of the tree.

Where has the success been, period? The Patriots go through the coaches but their quality of play never falters too far. What does that say about the coaches?

Tom Brady can make any young OC look like a guru. I bet if Brian Schottenheimer and Kyle Shanahan spent one season in NE with Brady they'd walk out the hot coaches that next offseason.

Yep, it's official. No idea what's special about this guy at all. But maybe that's what they want for a few years until the black cloud is lifted.

Whatever, hopefully a better O Coordinator comes to New England.

Supposedly he's been calling plays for the past 3 years for the Patriots.

QB coach turned OC...I guess his work with that offense made him a hot commodity...although last time he was in college, it wasn't pretty lol.

We'll see what happens, a lot of pSU fans don't like the hire, they were really looking more at Clements than an O'Brien...Obviously PSU was looking for an offensive minded type coach with the hire...we will see what he can do, he has a lot of doubters and cloud to work through here.

This screams of a move that was made only because no other caoch wanted to be there if PSU is slapped with sanctions. O'Brian will be there for 3-4 years until the sanctions are done or until the situation cools down, PSU will fire him then grab a bigger better name.

                      Patriots rehire McDaniels.

Josh McDaniels and the New England Patriots have agreed to a new deal that will make McDaniels an offensive assistant in these playoffs and the team's offensive coordinator in 2012, according to a league source.
