    Thoughts on Wild-Card round games

    Bengals v. Texans
*I was surprised that the Bengals even made the playoffs, to be honest. Dalton is a decent QB, and AJ Green is a very good WR, but other than that the team has no players. The Bengals were able to hang in for awhile, but once the big break went against Cincy (Watt INT return) the game was over.

*Arian Foster ran well. It should be a good matchup against the Ravens next week to see if Foster can have success again. John Harbaugh usually loses his shit in the playoffs and will have Flacco throwing the ball all over the field, which could be disasterous against the tough Texans secondary.

    Lions v. Saints
*Lions got screwed by a terrible whistle on Brees' fumble, but I don't think they would have won, anyways. Their defense simply could not stop the Saints when they ran or passed.

*Pierre Thomas looked really good. He has always been nicked up come playoff time, but this year he is healthy and ready to go.

*The Lions seemed to be in control early on, and they got lucky on some turnovers, but they couldn't match New Orleans score for score. Not a bad showing, but just not there yet.

    Giants v. Falcons

*Mike Smith is a terrible coach, and he proved it once again. I don't know how many times this year he's taken Turner out of the game in short-yardage situations and allowed Ryan to mess things up. He did it TWICE against the Giants.

*Not that it would have mattered, because the Falcons defense is very overrated. They got run over, passed over, and you have problems when Hakeem Nicks can outrun your entire team for a TD.

*I'm not a Matt Ryan fan to begin with, but he was pretty "blah" against the Giants. I was expecting more firepower with White and Jones getting a lot of passes against New York's depleted secondary.

*The Giants appear to be getting healthy and playing well at the right time. They are always hard to figure out, and sometimes Coughlin will make a baffling decision or the team will play flat (like against Seattle). But it would not surprise me if they went to Green Bay and won. They have the pass rush and the balanced offense to do it.

    Broncos v. Steelers
*I was surprised at all the "easy win for Pittsburgh" talk. Pittsburgh has done it with smoke and mirrors all year, and with so many people out for this game it was going to be tight.

*Offense was kind of bittersweet for Pittsburgh. I think they scored enough points to win, but they failed in their last drive when they had the chance to seal the game. They mis-used their timeouts, Roethlisberger's fumble was a big play, and the decision not to even attempt the game-winning FG made no sense to me.

*Tebow made some very good throws. They also had him throwing some simple vertical patterns like he did at Florida, which Pittsburgh could not defend with only 1 safety back. Don't know why Denver waited so long to do this.

*Jim Nantz and Phil Simms are a horrid announcing crew. A big part of the game was when LT Max Starks went down early for Pittsburgh, so they had to throw Scott in at LT. Simms/Nantz didn't make any reference to this huge change taking place until at the end of regulation. What were they watching for the previous 3 periods? Also, Simms' explanation for the phantom PI call on Taylor when Tebow threw the ball way over Thomas' head was laughable.

*Pittsburgh showed its age this game. Guys already hurt, guys getting hurt in the game (both Keisel and Hampton were victims of cut blocks early on), veterans on the sideline not contributing (Hines Ward).

I was also surprised of the poor play by the Falcons....giants secondary is far from good and to not have at least 1 passing TD is scary for you Falcons fans.

I would never want to play Breesus at the superdome...SMH.

I was disappointed to see Tebow and Thomas say "FUCK YOU new OT rules"

Bengals and texans....honestly did not care.

They've been running the same patterns, Tebow had simply been missing wide open receivers...the difference this game was he didnt miss them...and Pittsburgh never adjusted.

The difference was pitts putting 8 or 9 guys in the box and leaving 1 on 1 coverage against a couple wr's that decided to come and play.

Didn't help ike taylor was constantly getting burned with no safety help.

Not like Pittsburgh was the 1st team to put 8-9 guys in the box against Tebow.

Which is usually a good strategy when their wr's are either falling over on themselves or dropping passes.

I don't understand how some people had confidence in Atlanta.

After losing to the Texans they had to have a huge comeback to beat The Panthers. After that they blew out the Jags which isn't saying anything, and then got equally blown out by The Saints.
IMO, nothing indicated that they'd have a chance at beating a hot Giants team carrying a win steak.

Not really. But you are entitled to your opinion.

I wrote off Atlanta after week 1. They gave up 30 points to the Bears. Ick.

                    My thoughts.

                    - Not a single fuck was given about Houston/Cincy...but I watched some any way.
                    - I hit the over in the Lions/Saints game...that's all that mattered.
                    - Giants are getting good at the right time. Dangerous on the dance floor.
                    - Who doesn't watch Tebow time? Most entertaining game of the weekend...I act surprised. That throw at the end of the game was Godlessness.

Tebow missed plenty of wide open receivers in the game with some horrible inaccurate passes.

However, he made some great throws and the receivers made great plays when it counted. Bey Bey Thomas is doing the same shit he did at Georgia Tech which made him All-ACC. Run deep or find green while your QB runs around with his head cut off. Funny enough, its working for him and Tebow. Bey Bey has been one of the leagues breakout players as a result of him doing what made him successful in college.

What the Broncos are doing on offense isn't just working for Tebow.

Tebow was money on all his deep throws...Denver had been taking deep shots every game but mostly missing.

And senser even if Tebow hadnt been taking as many deep shots previously, it doesnt mean the Broncos werent running deep patterns, it could just be Tebow wasnt going deep often enough.

My favorite was one where Tebow was trying to rifle one in on the sideline early in the game. Threw it about 5 yards out of bounds and I think almost killed a ball boy. Simms called it a "great throw away" and a smart choice.

                          :whut:

I'm a Giants' fan, so I'm glad they won but everything Senser said about Mike Smith is true. He made some mind-boggling decisions.

At this point nothing the Giants do surprises me. I've told anyone who's asked what I think they'll do in the playoffs that I wouldn't shock me one way or the other if they got blown in their 1st playoff game or if they wound up in the SB. They're such a Jekyll & Hyde team.

I'm not a Steelers fan but I love Tomlin & LeBeau. That said, they were both horrendous yesterday. True, the gameplan was what other teams seemed to have success doing against Tebow but it didn't fit their personnel at all. You have what most consider a confusing zone-blitz defense that's been the one of the best in the league all year against both the run & the pass. You were playing a QB that struggles reading defenses and has trouble making any throws with defenders in the same zip code. Why not make him figure your scheme out instead of trying to figure out his? As a result the guys on the field looked lost & ill-prepared, especially the safeties. Polamalu spent all game guessing wrongly. Same goes for Ike Taylor at CB who either didn't know he didn't have help over top or got caught looking at the play-action or just got flat-out burned. They hardly ever came after Tebow. They just matched up man-on-man all the way across the board and made their linebackers a non-factor. Like ZB said there were no adjustments made at all. It was like some kind of weird dream because I saw Steelers uniforms on the defensive side but there were wide open receivers all over the place.

Almost forgot, I wonder if anyone talked to Pouncey's replacement at center. It's a minor miracle only one of those shotgun snaps got away. He was zinging them back there all over the place and at a pretty high velocity like he was a young Nolan Ryan. I kept waiting for Roethlisberger to come out there with a catcher's mitt.
