    Colts fire Caldwell

Colts fired head coach Jim Caldwell.
It's a bit of a surprise in that the Indianapolis Star and a prominent Colts blog had both grown confident that Caldwell would be retained. Despite an offensive background, Caldwell's unit finished 30th in the NFL at just 286.8 yards per game without Peyton Manning this season. His game management skills have also left a lot to be desired. Caldwell's firing is yet another sign that the Colts are entering a full-blown rebuilding process. Learning a new offense is one of several factors that could push Manning and the Colts to cut ties.
I thought the whole premise of them getting a couple wins to end the season saving his job was a joke, and the Colts organization obviously had no plans to bring him back regardless. Im sure Colts fans around here are pleased.

If Indy establishes the same success with Luck + new HC, I vote for the Jaguars to get demoted to the UFL or fold as a franchise altogether.

Why would they get rid of Caldwell who is a puppet to bring in another puppet, because we know as long as Manning is there he is running it. This leads me to believe the team may move Manning and start the rebuilding project around Luck with a legit coach.

Caldwell was more of a puppet because of Polian than Manning. Dungy wasn't Manning's puppet even though Manning did try to wave off punters a few times.

And it's about damn time dude gets fired I was getting nervous

Very, very excited to see this.

Caldwell JUST sent his remaining assistants on vacation because he "thought his job was safe" after he sat in on the DC interview with Steve Spags...

                      Dude's a joke.

In other news, a lot of Colts fans are up in arms today because of the way new GM Ryan Grigson came at the media - lots of rumors about lots of people going in the last couple of days. As I know, no word on the rest of Caldwell's staff.

Former Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell interviewed this weekend with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the position of offensive coordinator, but the team has decided to go another direction. Jim Caldwell is now expected to be hired by the Baltimore Ravens. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Twitter early this morning, Caldwell is likely to be hired as the Baltimore Ravens quarterback coach.

Schefter tweeted, “After visiting the Steelers this weekend, former Colts HC Jim Caldwell plans to join Ravens offensive staff, likely as QB coach”.

Caldwell, 57, has been involved in coaching since 1977 when he joined the Iowa University staff as a graduate assistant. Caldwell was the quarterbacks coach at Penn State University from 1986 until 1992. In the NFL, Caldwell held the role of quarterbacks coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2001 and then followed Tony Dungy to Indianapolis, filling the same role from 2002 until 2008. Caldwell held the position of head coach for the Colts from 2009-2011, posting a 26-22 overall record.

The move leaves the Pittsburgh Steelers without an offensive coordinator and it’s now possible that the club could promote current quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner.
