Woy is only partially correct. Oregon is pretty damn close to his son's hospital in Portland.

However, the allegations against Oregon should be worrisome for any coach. The university would obviously do anything in its power to dissuade any notion of actual sanctions, because they'd have Petersen handcuffed for X amount of years if they were punished anyways.

Right now, Texas and Oregon are the only two jobs Petersen takes. I think the threat of Oregon being punished severly hampers their chances of taking a guy with that kind of job security and that small of an ego, though.

If he does go to Oregon though, I bet Texas' OC goes right back to Boise as the HC. I'd be pissed.

The bigger question: does Tampa Bay draft Darron Thomas and LaMichael James now?

Darron Thomas no way. LaMike possibly.

PFT says that the two sides had a deal, but, Kelly had a change of heart last night. Chip went all Billy Donovan on us and backed out. Can't blame him. He has done some great things at Oregon and I can imagine he wants to continue to build and see it through.

            Oh well...

Chip Kelly turns down Bucs, GM says

Oregon coach Chip Kelly has decided not to take an offer from the Buccaneers to fill their head-coaching vacancy, Tampa Bay's general manager said.

"His heart is with college football and Oregon and he's no longer being considered,'' Mark Dominik said Monday, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Kelly and the Bucs had been deep in the process of finishing a deal Sunday night.

Kelly, who secretly interviewed with the Buccaneers last week, had been intrigued by the challenge of coaching at the highest level and not having to deal with parents and the NCAA oversights that are inherent to coaching in college, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.

While former USC coach Pete Carroll left the Trojans to coach the Seattle Seahawks in January 2010 shortly before an NCAA report of sanctions under Carroll's watch was released, the source told Schad that Kelly and Oregon were not anticipating heavy sanctions from the NCAA's inquiry into the school's relationship with scouting service owner Willie Lyles.

After firing Raheem Morris the day after the regular season ended, Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer said the team would go through an exhaustive search. Most of the candidates have been older and that's apparently because the Bucs wanted to go in the opposite direction of Morris, who was the league's youngest head coach.

Among the candidates who have or will interview for the position are former head coaches Brad Childress, Marty Schottenheimer and Mike Sherman, current coordinators Rob Chudzinski (Carolina Panthers), Jerry Gray (Tennessee Titans) and Mike Zimmer (Cincinnati Bengals) and Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements.

The Buccaneers also interviewed Joe Philbin, but the former Packers offensive coordinator was hired by the Miami Dolphins as their new coach late last week.

Information from ESPN college football reporter Joe Schad and The Associated Press was used in this report.

Oregon coach Chip Kelly said Monday that he turned down an offer from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because he has "unfinished business to complete" with the Ducks.

So, had this negotiation not been made public, he probably would have bolted. Since it came out, he all of a sudden wants to stay in Eugene.

Anybody who thinks Kelly's "gimmicky" offense can't work in the pros is kidding themselves... this is the best hire since Bill Walsh and the West Coast Offense.

That is what I believed happened. Had no word come of this, he would be introduced as the Bucs head coach. However, that didnt happen.

He wanted to leave in the middle of the night without anyone in Eugene thinking anything. But since it was leaked he felt the pressure to stay now that everyone was aware while he was still around town.

Nah. Chip isn't the kind of guy who gives a shit about that. He cares for his players and that's it.

                          Thank you Chip for staying!!!

Serious? I'm sure he cares about them, but lets be real. I bet Phil Knight put in a call. I'd expect the new Chip Kelly's to be released sometime in the future. ...when the blacks go crazy we will know.

There will be a raise and extension announced in the next two days. Standard operating procedure for the coaching profession these days. Never honor your contract, because you can always get a better one.

It's going to be all the more hilarious if Oregon falters without Thomas and James.

I doubt it happens though, considering Bennett looked plenty good in spots last season.
