Championship weekend thought. Quick Hits edition *

Opposite to my previous weeks thread I thought this weekend was sensational. Despite the ATROCIOUS refereeing across the board all 4 teams played excellent football.

Refs- They suck. How is it with 4k HD cameras, a peta byte worth of storage , and instantaneous access , and a ref in the sky ,these calls can still be blown because "whistle was blown dead". Da fuck ? I understand the need to not bog down the game...but that's why you give these coaches flags. 4 games in these playoffs for most intents and purposes been decided by terrible calls. The fact they weren't under 2 mins saves them from big scrutiny.
I believe the NFL still does the "all star" refs instead of the "all star" crews for the playoffs.((correct me if Im wrong)) Its weird to see one side of the secondary be lax and the other side get ticky tacked.

    Ray Lewis -

Why are some guys feeling bad for him ?

SB MVP Greatest defensive performance in a SB , and that Ive personally witnessed by a MLB in a big game. 2000 = One of the top 3 defenses of all time.

    He has his ring.
Dont know why people make him out to be like Marino of LBs.

    Perspective-
One missed FG transforms this from the second greatest INT in NFL history ...to "that cool looking INT that one time"

    Peyton Manning-
Never has a guy been so interesting when not playing.
While his "all time" stock was further solidified by his teams odorous play.
Brady or Manning getting a ring guarantees Peyton haters will have new and justifiable ammunation.

    Tom Brady -

If he wins this game. Ill have to seriously re-think my stance and up him a tier. 5 sb trips and a SB win with the 31st ranked defense in the league would wipe my current argument against him as top 5 all time QB.

    Eli Manning-
    You are the fuckin man.

Dont let Giants fans fool you. I still rub it in there nose the bashing they did of not only Coughlin but of Eli. He was roasted way worse than Sanchez INCLUDING early in the 2007 season. I was always a fan and had to convince guys he'd come around once the Manning pressure wore off.
I hate big blue but Im really happy for the guy. So much shit flung his way and he takes it all in stride. If he wins....Manning thanksgiving dinners will be VERY interesting.

    Kyle Williams -
    You are not the goat.
    This man is.

I never gonna knock a guy for effort. Pats returner did the same thing after the fumble nearly lost it again after getting walluped. You dont make it to the pro level by crawling up into a ball after a fuck up. ST coach should be lambasted for allowing a backup return man to have an aggressive return with how that defense was playing and knowing he'd botched a play earlier.

    Shit happens.

    From Twitter

@KyleWilliams_10 keep ur head up. U r my brother n teammate N I would put u back there all over again. We all lost this game tonight not u. VIA Patrick Willis

    Lee Evans-
Clearly this guy was never hugged as a kid. Thats the softest Ive ever seen a catch cradled in a playoff game. 5-3 odds this guy drops his first child in the delivery room.

    Patrick Willis-
Most under appreciated player in the league.
No.1 defense ,was absolutely murdering guys all game. Decleated that eastern block experiment the Giants call a FB.
TEXT BOOK hitter/tackler. Best on that team since Tim Mcdonald.

    John Harbaugh-
3rd and 1..you have a time out. You have 2nd leading rusher and a back up who had been a 3 yard and a cloud of dust steamroller all game.
How you let the OC fuck that up knowing Billy Cowboy Chokeer Cundiff is your kicker is IN-EX-CUSABLE.
I had my head in my hands and people were asking me why I said "he used to be a Cowboy".....then....well you know.

    Giants/Pats-
Dont recall a SB where both teams got in with such fluky lucky plays.
The SB media bandwagon and casuals will be through the roof for this one. Hopefully the game is as good as the last time.

    But before I go........................

    Never....EVER...sign a Cowboy kicker.

Best reason to have a license.

I agree the reffing has been bad in the postseason, but I didn't see anything egregious in the conference championships. I thought the officials did a good job at not calling all the extracurricular penalties yet still maintaining control of the game. The worst call was by Hochuli's crew (surprised?), when the Niners were flagged for 15 yards when a Giants player ripped a Niners' player helmet off by grabbing the facemask.

These are kind of all related. None of the 4 teams played particularly well. Of the QBs, I guess Manning did the best, but people/media are really overstating his performance. I didn't see the final stats, but for most of the game he was averaging less than 10 yards per completion, and about 5 yards per attempt. He threw a nice pass to Manningham for the TD, and his lob to Bradshaw should have won the game in regulation, but for the most part Manning was throwing dump-offs before getting killed. I give him high marks for toughness, but it wasn't a great game.

Brady was terrible. Flacco was OK. Smith was pretty terrible outside of a few passes.

The Niners couldn't do anything on offense, and Williams' returns were a big help in the field position battle. I don't think you can blame the ST coach. Especially on that first fumble/touch that basically cost SF the game...what was Williams thinking?

Terrible play all around by Evans. One, catch the ball in your hands and spin away from the defender so he can't bat it. Two, if you catch the ball in your body, hold it tight and immediately fall down so the defender can't hit the ball out. Evans did the worst thing...he caught the ball in his body, then he turned to allow the defender a clear shot at the ball with nothing protecting the ball. That said, I was surprised that the booth didn't even review the play...considering it would have only decided the outcome of the game.

I was amazed that New England won with a bad game by Brady. Its inexcusable. The reason the Ravens lost is Harbaugh, plain and simple. They had better players. They should have run the ball more. They should have pounded the Pats with Ricky Williams. When they did run, they would use all this counter action which would end up with Dennis Pitta trying to block Vince Wilfork. HUH? Run the ball away from Wilfork...win the game.

Harbaugh's use of the clock and his time outs was absurd. They were always getting the plays in late. Settling for the FG was too conservative for my tastes, and then Harbaugh didn't send the kicker on until there was 10 seconds left on the play clock. So the kicker isn't really set, and the Ravens could have called time out...so what does Harbaugh do? Nothing.

Brady is already entrenched at #3 All-Time QB for me...but let's be honest...its tough to keep him out of a discussion with Montana and Elway considering his resume.

Eli Manning is strutting his way to the Hall of Fame.

That was a strange non call. It was blatant Im not even sure Troy and Buck mentioned it.
I think the non review of the fumble and the endzone catch was oddball as you mentioned.

It was an "ol skool" performance. Just like a running back can get 83 yards but they were 83 "tough yards" Elis completions were a bunch of tough yards. I mean that one play there were 3 guys converging in him at high speed and he delivered. Several came on 3rd and long with him hitting the turf or getting twisted around. It was very Big Bennish. Not something I play on film but something I pat a guy on the back over.

If that was Ginn or a pedigree Id say ok...A backup , on a field where guys were losing footing left and right , coming off an epic blunder , with game on the line. I think you have to know that situation and mindset and tell him to be insanely cautious.
No excuse for that god awful first screwup.

Williams was trying , Cundiff is a choker and was rushed out there. What the fuck was Evans excuse for the lackadaisical catch. Loved Irvin ripping into him last night.

        Agree entirely.

I have to wait and see. If he wins and is MVP then man how can I exclude him. If he plays mediocre or piss poor win or lose Im still not putting him up there.

What about Edelman on Boldin? They should have exploited that matchup more. I bet the Giants will in 2 weeks.
