How much heat is on Rex Ryan?

The Jets had a disappointing season this year, missing out on the playoffs despite lofty expectations and a talented roster.

Obviously, there is a new offensive coordinator and many off-season moves are expected (Santonio Holmes, for example, may not be back) but will there be pressure on Ryan by management to make the playoffs next season? If the Jets miss out again, could we see them fire Ryan?

Ownership likes Ryan so I would assume if anything, the 2013 season is when he'll have the type of pressure that could affect his job. You know, barring a 2-14 season that is.

Honestly, for as much as people here don't like him, all the Jets need to do is look at their stadium partner to see what patience can accomplish. Giants fans wanted Coughlin out too, and he's about to coach his second Super Bowl.

Now, Tom Coughlin and Rex Ryan are about as opposite as personalities can be, but Ryan seems to be a good football mind. If he can add some actual discipline (a seemingly tough order for him, to be sure), things will be looking up.

I said it from the day he was hired, and this goes for his brother, if he ever gets a head coaching job - Rex Ryan is up there with Mike Dinglebary as one of the worst head coaches to get a job in the NFL. He's terrible at preparation. Rex Ryan is good at two things - motivation, and talking shit. Motivation and talking shit last about two years, before the players start to realize it's actual shit.

I think Sanchez has been holding the Jets back personally. Have to wonder if they wouldn't be willing to break open the piggy bank if and when Peyton becomes available for the biggest free agency bidding war of all time.

He's had one bad year, and has gotten them to two AFC title games vs. much better teams.

He brings media/money/talent to the Jets. So many defensive players would love to play for the guy.

no, he's given them the best seasons theyve had in a long time. He'll have to suck for 3 years straight to lose this job.

Tough to say he'll get more than this year, he's raised the expectations of the franchise with his inability to stfu.
