I'm not saying I disagree with you.. hell I think the Lions should draft Curry or Crabtree as they are the best players in this draft IMO and thats the logic I take into the draft.. but like Houston was forced to take David Carr.. Detroit is all but forced to take Matthew Stafford.

Stafford didn't throw for teams at the scouting combine in Indianapolis last month. He'll do that at Georgia's pro day March 19, then have a private on-campus workout with the Lions.

"Obviously, we need to see his arm, and we need to get more than we can get at Georgia's pro day," Schwartz said. "After all, that will be a day that every team attends, and that will be highlighting their other players, not just Stafford."

Schwartz said Detroit's staff has studied Stafford on film, but he wants the private workout to put the quarterback through specific situations.

"We've seen every pass he's thrown in the last two years, and that's where you learn about his decision-making ability," Schwartz said. "At the workout, though, we can have more control over the balls he's throwing -- we can see how he throws to the stationary targets we want to see and how he throws to the moving targets we want to see."

Schwartz said the Lions haven't made arrangements to have private workouts with other players, such as offensive tackles Jason Smith (Baylor) and Eugene Monroe (Virginia) or linebacker Aaron Curry (Wake Forest), but said there was a "strong possibility" that the team would visit more prospects.

OT Jason Smith from Baylor I think will be picked.

They see what Jake Long did for the Tuna and want that same success. Dolphins had QB issues season before last as well, granted we addressed that ha.

Now that they have Peterson, i'll have to go with Stafford as the 1st pick in the draft.

Looks like Stafford had a great pro day. He'll probably go first IMO.

The Lions are dumb if they take Curry. He's a non-pass rushing LB. You don't take non-pass rushing LB's in the top 10, let alone #1. Non-pass rushing = non-impact. He'll be a nice, solid, smart player, but he's not going to be a game changer.

They should go QB or O-line.

Curry can pass rush, If asked to, he's very versitile...and are you saying guys like Jon Beason, Brian Urlacher, Ray Lewis etc aren't impact players?

He's not a pass rusher. If he goes to a team with a 3-4, he'll play inside, not outside.

Those guys are all middle linebackers. And, they were the 25th, 9th, and 26th overall selections respectively.

Yes, those guys are impact players. But, you can find them later in the draft. You shouldn't take them #1 overall. LB isn't good value there.

Theres something to be said for taking the best player on your board no matter the position.

A few teams live by that theory

That's fine if you're a team like New England.

The Lions need a franchise QB/LT more than they need a LB. How's Ernie Sims working out for them?

True , it is an easier theory to live by when you already have a solid base.

Sims will play great this year...its hard when your the only defensive player on the field...i think the other 10 guys were a bunch of actors and figure skaters

The Lions need an OL.. Kitna wasn't that bad as people make him out to be.. It was the OL's problem because he had to always get out of the pocket/ get sacked because they couldn't block.
