    NFL Combine

Im just curious to read what everyone thinks of the combine.

I use to think it was cool but now guys dont go, or they wont run the 40, throw, etc. They do it on their pro days. What the hell is the combine for then. If you go you should be required to do everything there.

    RGIII and luck arent throwing
    Blackmon isnt running the 40.

And do you really care what your OL 40 speed is or how fast he can run around cones. I know footwork is important but come on.

Apparently, Orson Charles beefed up and did an excellent bench number, but won't run until he slims down for his pro day.

I watched some of the tight end shit today, rather boring. I didn't even see Fleener run the 40 or routes, he was the only guy I wanted to watch.

LOL. Be strong one day. Be quick a month later.

The combine becoming a bigger and bigger deal is why so many top prospects wont participate in parts of it...I mean, if Blackmon comes out and runs a 4.7 40, he's a late first round prospect all of a sudden instead of a probable top 10 pick

I'm as big of a football fan as their is, but the combine is an absolute joke. I never cared for anything about it. What college quarterback can't hit a deep out on time in shorts with no pass rush? Run down the line and catch a ball side to side, yeah that's really measuring everything I need to know.

I also love the "it shows work ethic" argument. I've seen guys walk into a weight room day one and pump weight out, and I've seen guys be in there for months and not accomplish a whole lot.

I get that some parts of it might assist in the decision-making, but come on. If you got a guy you want and he stinks it up in Indy, are you really changing your mind? And if you do, what did you mess up so bad on film?

It's nothing but a glorified practice to me.

The funny thing about the combine is that the NFL has actually convinced some people that there is a better way to evaluate a player than watching him play football. It's really quite ridiculous when you think about it.

I turned it on for a little bit today and I'm just watching these ordinary dudes exercise and Michael Irvin yelling at me. I couldn't watch for more than 10 mins.

JPP did 15 back flips and is the best defensive end in football.

I don't really have a problem with NFL Network televising it, because it's NFL Network and what else are they going to air? Total Access on a loop all day like usual?

With that said, it's easily one of the least entertaining sports related things on TV.

And I agree with everybody else, in that nothing these guys are doing translates to playing football. When in a football game do you run as hard as you can in a straight line for 40 yards? And with no pads? In fact, howw often do players full sprint period in a fooball game?

Having defensive guys take an angle in pads would be more relevant, no? Maybe have the RB's take a handoff, evade a blocking dummy, then run 40 yards? WR's can shuck a block at the line, then run a fly pattern, and time that?

It's all so silly, but I guess it's a chance for the personnel people to see these players in the flesh, and I suppose the physical measurements are useful.

What bothered me today, was ESPN was running COMBINE RESULTS on the bottom line, as if the bench press totals of some LB nobody has ever heard of unless you are a draft geek is something that qualifies as sports news.

                        Floyd ran a 4.42. Nice.

Eisen is hard to Floyd right now.

Interested to see what Tommy Streeter runs.
