You can't count on that obviously, but neither can you assume that a team will be unable to improve on its record. So while being a one-year deal significantly reduces the risk involved with signing Owens, I don't think you can say it won't carry any risk. If he manages to detract from their season with his antics, its still having an affect.
IMO, the Bills are 7-9 again next season. They simply don't have the players to improve on that.
With Owens, they might take the next step.
Nothing in the draft or the guys left in free agency tell me they could have done better than Owens.

We fell off the map last year because teams would double Lee Evans and control the running game, so we had nowhere else to go.

I don't know what T.O. does to a locker room, but he's only a human. He hasn't killed anybody, or raped anybody's mother, so I'm sure he's not the problem everyone makes him out to be. If he selfish? Absolutely. Name one wide receiver that doesn't want the ball. But to immediately point blame at only T.O. for a team not winning the Superbowl, or for "bringing a team down".. well, I think THAT'S naive.

Your naive for thinking TO isn't a problem. Nobody in Dallas (well not me) blamed TO for not winning a Superbowl. In fact I would say 90% (again not including me) have blamed Romo which I think is ridiculous. The fact is that TO divides the locker room and it ends with the team going against one another and not playing as one unit. You saw it in San Fran, you saw it in Philly and you saw it in Dallas. You can think he won't crush your team's chemistry and maybe he won't because he is only going to be there for one year so he won't have enough time to but to say that he doesn't bring his team down is ridiculous.

T.O. is A problem. He is not THE problem. And that's the point I'm trying to make.

Well I agree with you that he isn't THE problem but he does bring a team down, he has done it to 3 already.

Considering that the only real receiving threat that Buffalo has is Lee Evans (and even he's inconsistent due to poor Quarterbacks and general missteps on the field)...

I won't condone T.O.'s actions away from the field but when he's on, he's been one of the best in the league.

And a lot of those numbers could have easily have come from when the Bills were tanking it and already out of the playoff picture.

FF Numbers =/= Great or even Good QBs.

Edwards, while decent at times, is not consistent enough to support the ego of T.O. and his need to have the ball thrown to him 20 times a game.

Edwards is young but he has the tools to be a very smart and successful QB in this league if the Bills can build a great defense. He's a game manager, and game managers have won Super Bowls, but he's not a playmaker and TO won't like that about him. Then again, TO is the only playmaker to TO. Ha.
