man, talk about a sports soap opera. I hope his career is still worthit and doesnt suffer..like when Unitus went to San Diego.
You must be a 16 year old kid who knows nothing and think that the 90's produced great music.

I'm sure Miami will be pushing hard for his services now that Flynn has landed in Seattle.

Do everything I could to stay in San Francisco. Not get mad about them trying to get Peyton Manning, because it's Peyton fucking Manning.

Like rawlaw mentioned before, because its Peyton Manning you dont become ok with losing your job. Alex is 27, he cant afford to sit behind Manning for 3-4 years hoping to pick something up. Yea,he had the opportunity to sign a 3 year deal and be done with it but circumstances have changed so he has to weigh his options and do whats in the best interest of him and his family.

I think he's fed up with the niners after this (even if that is a little silly, he's lucky he's still a starter after how his career began) and is seriously looking for a new team.
              My theory.

              - On Saturday/Sunday Condon knows Manning is going to Denver
              - Condon calls Smith and tells him to go visit Miami to drive up his value
              - Smith goes , talks deal
              - Monday news breaks Manning to Denver
              - SF to Smith, "Oh, come on Alex...... we really do like you, what do you want?"

Easy increase in the guaranteed money if he plays it right. He also gets to look like he's the better man and taking the high road in his return to SF. "The team is bigger than me" blah blah blah and everyone will give him props for it. He gets what he really wanted all along and for more money.

Smith has had a deal on the table from the 49ers since the offseason began...they seemingly won't budge for it.

Smith could have had the 49ers bypass the Manning sweepstakes by signing a long time ago.

                        They've reportedly agreed to terms.

I believe Harbaugh and Baalke were genuine when they initially announced that Smith was their guy, and they had no interest in pursuing Manning...but when he turned down their contract offer, that changed the game. This debacle was Smith's fault for over-valuing himself as a player.

He decided to shop around and realized the grass was not greener.

He was dumb to even consider leaving the coach that turned him from waiver wire fodder to a guy that "earned" a second contract, lucrative, at that.

Alex Smith, for a smart guy, was pretty dumb in this instant.

Very interested to see the contract numbers, he's a spastic if he hasn't managed to get a couple more mil outta them.
