The fact that he misses this years draft, training camp, and the season is brutal. Then to miss NEXT year's free agency is crazy.

Sorry if I've missed all the comments up to this point but now that I actually got to sit down and read the story I'm baffled. I understand making an example of someone but this one seems a little bit too extreme even for me, a hater of the Saints.

Right now, Payton and particularly Gregg Williams should thank their lucky asses they have not been charged by the state, or federally, for conspiracy to commit a crime. What they did was offer a monetary reward for someone committing assault and battery.

If a "ring" like this was found in someone's local town/city, all of these folks would be parading in front of a judge right now. For some reason, the football field is saving them right now. Can't say that for the NHLs rink, ask Todd Bertuzzi, Marty McSorley, Dino Ciccarelli, and a handful more.

I know some people on this board have some really strong feelings against Williams, Payton, and this organization about how all of this went down. I haven't read too much about this story because, quite frankly, I reall don't care if they put bounties on each other or not. Doesn't register on my moral meter. Bounties have been part of this game since Moses wore shorts pants. Any NFL player that says they have never partaken or at least been in a locker room where this has taken place is lying out thier ass.

I understand it goes against the collective bargaining agreement and the league had to take action. But the penalties they handed out seem sily to me. Maybe I need to read more about this, but thats my initial reaction. Just silly.

Hmmm... putting a bounty on a QB who took over the league by storm and could of drastically changed the Saints playoff seeding for the next 10 years is a terrible idea? They play him two times a year, try and hurt his ass in a big way, Cam looked good, take him out before he gets better, makes more sense than Favre and Warner who they knew they would prob never see again. Rodgers would be in their way come playoffs every year so that one makes more sense.

Lol at this. NFL defensive players get paid to commit assault and battery. Tackle someone on the sidewalk and see what happens....

Roger Goodell totally sees what you are trying to say.

What a dumb fucking post. What was hockey's excuse then?

Your point would make some sense of they were swinging sticks or trying to cut each other with blades attached to their shoes. Were talking about hits, that as far as I know were deemed legal by the NFL at the time, now in question because someone laid down $10,000 on a table as incentive.

                        Don't be so fucking dense.

Just because it happened before and there weren't penalties or outcry doesn't mean going forward there shouldn't be. The rules of the league should evolve with increased awareness and education.

That's fine, I don't have a problem with the league taking action. But the punishment they handed out is laughable...
