    2. DeMarcus Ware
    3. Terrell Suggs
    4. Elvis Dumervil
    5. Von Miller

Justin Tuck had an injury riddled year but came on strong late...but I wouldn't say him right now.

Osi Umenyiora also had an injury riddled year but when he's on the field, the guy finds a way to not just sack the QB but strip the ball.

But, Jason Pierre Paul had a beastly year...he deserves consideration.

    Julius Peppers
    DeMarcus Ware
    Jason Pierre Paul
    Tamba Hali
    Jared Allen

Jared Allen- going with the reigning sack leader at the top spot. No reason not too.

Terrell Suggs- a few other players had more sacks this season than Suggs, but few strike as much fear into opposing QBs. Suggs forced seven fumbles last year, and is always a threat to put a big hit on someone.

DeMarcus Ware- such an explosive player, and one player I can't hate even though he plays for Dallas. He's got a 20 sack and 19.5 sack season to his credit.

Jason Pierre Paul- Like Ware, I just can't hate the guy despite the fact he plays for another divisional rival. 16.5 sacks in just his second year is impressive, especially when you take into account that Tuck and Umenyiora struggled through injuries.

        Brian Orakpo

I honestly don't know who to put fifth. Babin, Aldon Smith and even Tamba Hali are deserving of that spot.

        Fire away on my list.

Pro Football Focus uses a formula to measure pass rush productivity.

                  Sacks + 0.75(Hits + Hurries) / Number of Pass Rush Attempts * 100

                  Yields an interesting top 5

                  Aldon Smith
                  Trent Cole
                  Antwan Barnes
                  Jason Babin
                  James Harrison

Cole is another underrated guy like Wake.

                  My personal top 5

                  Jared Allen
                  DeMarcus Ware
                  Terrell Suggs
                  Aldon Smith
                  Jason Babin

Fun fact: Elvis Dumervil has never put together back-to-back double digit sack seasons.

                    No kidding aside I'd go

                    Jared Allen
                    DeMarcus Ware
                    JPP
                    Trent Cole
                    Tamba Hali

I don't put Suggs in mine because he is likely to miss some playing time this season.

Take this FWIW, but of everyone people have mentioned so far here is how many sacks each player as had the last 2 years.

                        Ware - 35.0
                        Allen - 33.0
                        Babin - 30.5
                        Hali/Dumervil - 26.5
                        Suggs - 25.0
                        Wake - 22.5
                        JPP/T. Cole - 21.0 [16.5 last season]
                        Orakpo - 17.5
                        A. Smith - 14 in 1 year
                        V. Miller - 11.5 in 1 year

According to Pro Football Focus his 81 combined sacks, hits, and hurries was the second-highest total of all defensive players.

He also drew the most holding penalties last year out of all pass rushers.

Did not realize Antwan Barnes had 11 sacks last year. Really just found that out, wow.

Kind of an odd stat...I would assume that it would favor the situational pass rusher, because he is only on the field in passing situations. Guys like Jared Allen are on the field all the time, so a play action pass on 1st down is going to add more "pass rush attempts" to his total. And there is no way a hit/hurry is .75 of a sack in terms of worth. I've seen QBs take hits and complete TD passes, but I've never seen a QB take a sack and complete a TD pass.
