A fucking selection committee?
Playoff consensus reached for college football

Having a selection committee is better than having coaches of the actual teams involved in the rankings, and all of the mysterious computer rankings and various polls. Also it at least adds some of margin of error having 4 teams if the committee picks the 'wrong' team.
I think this an improvement, but still just a small step in the right direction.Comment

I don't like the selection committee and would prefer 6 or 8 teams, but this is a step in the right direction and far better than the BCS.Comment

Selection committee picking the teams is no big deal. I would prefer the AP rankings, but at least its better than the stupid computers that get tweaked every year, or the absurd coaches poll.
This is a huge upgrade over the BCS, and will lead to bigger playoffs. Great day for college football.
Also it looks like it will be top 4 teams overall, not top 4 conf champs.Comment

Can't say for certain because the selections would be made by a committee. They are told to give preference based on SoS and being a conference champion, so Oregon might have beaten out Stanford.Comment

I like the idea.
The coaches poll is a mess, as a few people have already brought up, and with the AP wanting nothing to do with deciding which schools get the biggest bowl payout this is the way to go.
It will be interesting to see what two teams make it every year to play the two SEC division champs. :arrieta:Comment

Also listening to Larry Scott talk it seems like he's dropping hints that long term we are looking at an 8 or 16 team tournament.Comment

Glad to see people calm down and common sense start to prevail.

If they weren't going to use objective criteria like conference champions, then I would honestly rather have a selection committee than a coaches poll and a BCS computer composite ranking. I think the old BCS computer rankings handcuffed the championship game rather than helped it. Hopefully the selection committee will be able to leave out Nebraska after Colorado drops 65 on them the previous week.
I can see how a selection committee will undoubtedly lead to controversy, but at least you have people to vent your anger it. Its not like the BCS people shrugging their shoulders and saying "The computer told us to do it...what choice did we have?"Comment
