Ryan Leaf keeps it really real...

"They believe I've held them (his parents) for ransom for 36 years, and I don't understand why I should have to do that any more."

"I'm lazy, and dishonest and selfish. These were behaviors I had before my addiction kicked in."

"Five to 10 years of Ryan-free drama for my family, this community — particularly for this nation — would be pure bliss for people."

His ex-wife actually took a lot of it in the divorce and he had a pretty bad golf habit. Was just playing not too long ago so he didn't give that up.

You have to give the guy credit for taking responsibility and recognizing his problems. He isn't letting other factors provide him with excuses. Say all you want about him. The media loves to show that clip of him following the KC game, but, this guy has busted his ass to get his life straight. Addiction is a hard battle to win and there are likely relapses down the road to recovery, but, he was on the right path before this and I think he'll get the help he needs and he'll beat this.

If you guys even had the opportunity to talk with the guy, you would see a completely different guy than the media portrayed. Fact is, he knows he was immature coming out of college, he was an ass, arrogant, etc. Life served him a pretty big slice of humble pie. He doesn't get pissed at people for raking him over the coals for his poor performance in the NFL...he owns up to it, just like he is owning up to this.

He's been a headache since high school. I know his coach at CMR and he said Ryan always had an entitlement attitude. There are few people who have anything good to say about him in his hometown.

I feel really sorry for Ryan, it looked like he was really turning his life around. I still haven't gotten around to reading his book, 596 Switch, that talks of his time from committing to Wazzu up until the Rose Bowl in 1998.
