Do you think there are basketball players around the world that choose not to go to the NBA but could?

If you are the greatest WR of all time in the CFL, chances are you could probably play in the NFL.

And as to him getting cut, he might not have been ready, like Kurt Warner, Jeff Garcia, or Joe Kapp. Not focused, not strong enough, still raw, etc.

Juan Carlos Navarro. All Rookie 2nd team in 2007. Has played in Spain since then. He's loyal to his country. Not every foreigner decides, hey, I want to play in the NBA for life.

you are comparing a foreigner being loyal to his homeland to an american who couldnt make an NFL team going elsewhere to play

players dont choose to play for minor league baseball teams. they cant make the show so they are forced to play for minor league teams.

There are probably players in the CFL who could make the back end of an NFL roster even a non starting significant role, but who are comfortable starting in the CFL, have families, make decent money, and don't want to bother with the yearly (and even weekly) grind and insecurity of securing an NFL roster spot.

This particular WR may have been able to play on the NFL, and moght have lasted as a fringe guy for a few years, but why do that if he could start and make better money as a CFL star for a decade and a half?

True. He tried and didn't make it. But after going to the CFL and honing his skills, the question is this: if he had tried out now, could he have made it?

Just like W2B said, he was still making plenty of money and had fans who adored him. Just because he wasn't there doesn't mean he couldn't have been.

Money in the CFL is pretty bad but for a top guy like Geroy he mightve been getting 300-500k a year. But theres definitely something to be said about the comfort level of playing here, less pressure, more success personally and way less of a grind up here. Im sure there was a point in his career Geroy definitely couldve been a 4th-5th WR in the NFL, but there could always be reasons behind not making the decision to jump over.
