Meeting Goes Wrong, Cutler Officially asks to be Traded
Champions are made when they can pull through in the face of adversity.
Cutler's reputation has taken a huge hit with all of this.
I learned in high school that I don't play for the coaches - I play for my teammates and for myself. Football, moreso than any other sport in the world, is about your personal pride and counting on your teammates. Seriously, how many of us here have played for a coach that we absolutely despised while growing up as teenagers? I played for a few coaches that I hated. They were assholes. They didn't give a shit about me and I didn't give a shit about them but I played the sport because I loved the sport and I loved my teammates.
I don't think McDaniels has handled this situation in the best way possible, but if I'm Cutler I don't give a shit about McDaniels. I play for the Denver Broncos, not the Josh McDaniels. Cutler is letting his entire team down by doing this shit. Even if he ends up coming back, how can his teammates respect him after this? He's let McDaniels get in his head. There is no doubt in my mind that his teammates have to be thinking that he is a big pussy.
Football is a not a child's game. You have to be a man to succeed in the league. From Cutler's body gestures during games to this off the field whining and bitching, he has shown that he is anything but a man. He is an all world talent but a big mouth will always swallow a big arm.
He will be in the league for a long, long time and I expect him to mature some day and become the QB that everyone knows he can be. Maybe this is what he needs to experience to help him get there. Somebody has to show this kid that he isn't Peyton Manning or Tom Brady and that he is indeed expendable.
What the fuck does Type A Diabetes have to do with anything? lol
It tied in with him not being inspired to bust his ass for someone he doesnt like. If I had health issues I certainly wouldnt want to risk anything for something I dont believe in or someone I dont trust.

Diabetes isn't that serious anymore. I played with kids in highschool that suffered from diabetes. Cutler probably has a staff of guys monitoring his blood levels before, during, and after every single practice. People with Type 1 Diabetes are able to do triathlons and 100 mile bike rides these days, he isn't in any danger.
Because of new technology, ultra-athletes with Type 1 diabetes are running marathons, doing 100-mile bike rides and completing Ironmen — many with their doctor’s blessing.
That didn’t stop him from competing in bike races around the world. In 2005, Mr. Southerland, of Atlanta, founded Team Type 1, a cycling team of eight Type 1 diabetics who are bent on proving that people can live — and exercise — well with diabetes, no matter the type. They have competed twice in Race Across America, a 3,053-mile bike event from Oceanside, Calif., to Atlantic City. This year they came in first, and broke their own record (down 21 minutes from 2006, to 5 days, 15 hours and 43 minutes).
Their ultimate goal? To have an entire team of Type 1’s compete in the Tour de France in five to seven years.

His team-mates are hoping that this shit gets worked out and they can have a Pro-Bowl caliber QB stay on their roster and grow with the team. Especially those 2 young receivers. Cutler is coming off like a Pre-Madonna and like a sensitive mofo, but in a league with 1000 players theres going to be all kinds of different personalities. If they view him as a pussy or not, as I said before, winning heals all wounds. And I dont even think its fair to say the dude has a big-mouth.. hes probably just an emotional guy. To think you're the face of a Franchise and then some new Coach comes into town and hes looking to replace you? Yeah football is for men, but its also a business and thats bad business. As I said before, the damage-control has been poor here. Cutler may have let his team-mates down in a sense, but in the NFL you gotta look after yourself. Its easily the most cut-throat sports league in the world.
eehhh, not that constraining now days, still life-threatening disease, but if you're healthy, athletic, eat right, you're fine. Being an athlete is good for him. It's a stretch to hate on him because of his disease though...
... having said that the breaking down sugar joke had me laughing.
Im definitely not hating on Cutler.. im actually defending him.
And yeah im sure he has a staff of guys looking after him.. kind of a hassle, no? Regardless, theres a number of reasons for Cutler to be uninspired to play in his current situation. Leading me to believe a change will occur.

I agree with what you are saying, but what would you do in the face of that type of adversity? New coach comes in and is looking to replace you. Do you bitch and moan on the sideline and refuse to play or do you go in there and prove to him and the entire world that he was a fool for trying to deal you?
You don't have to be best friends with your coach to be a good football player. If I was Cutler, I wouldn't say anything. I'd keep my mouth shut and embarrass McDaniels by going out and having the best season of my career.
It's in his hands and he's handling it the wrong way. It is a bit early, so maybe Cutler comes around once he realizes that he isn't going anywhere so I'll sit back and give him the benefit of the doubt for now. But if the draft comes and goes and Cutler is still a Bronco and he sits out or continues to bitch and moan and ask to be traded then he will be one of the biggest bitches I've ever seen.
You don't play for the coach, you play for yourself and your teammates. That's all that matters. If I was Cutler I'd have that attitude, "I don't like you but I'm going to go out there and bust my ass and win football games for my teammates."

Unfortunately, as far as Star-power goes in the NFL.. not a lot of guys seem to have that attitude. Im willing to bet a lot of stars would react similarly to Cutler in the same situation. Infact, this is a rare situation.. how often does a coach come and want to part with a young franchise QB? So mind-boggling. Thats why ive been at Cutler's defense so much through this. I really think Josh McDaniels is a complete bone-head. Everyones handled the sito pretty poorly. But atleast Cutler said he came with a positive attitude to the meeting and was hoping for it to be resolved. We dont really know what went on behind doors, and its entirely possible that bone-head McDaniels did more terrible damage-control and gave Cutler the impression that he'd be fine moving on without him. Not exactly reassuring from your new head-coach. I agree you play football for yourself and your team-mates, but the coach is a huge factor in the team. If you and your coach cant co-exist you might aswell move on from the situation. Its not like the 2 of them have any kind of relationship to begin with, so for it to start off with a strain makes it all the more difficult. Pre-Madonna's are rampant in the NFL, Cutler may or may not be any different, but I do see where hes coming from in all this.

Again, I agree with you. And this isn't a problem that I have with just Cutler, it's a problem with a lot of NFL athletes that think they are special super stars. I despise all of them. They think they are bigger than the sport. They forget that they play a fucking GAME because the paychecks and fame turn them into celebrities.
Anyways, I guess Cutler wanted McDaniels to lie to him and cradle him into his arms and tell him that he is his favorite son. McDaniels didn't do that, seems to me like he was just being honest with Cutler by telling him that he did go after Cassel and that if the right deal comes by he will entertain it.
Cutler wants McDaniels to tell him that there is no way in hell he will ever be traded no matter what. McDaniels didn't tell him that and I respect him for that. You never let a player become bigger than the team.
Also, maybe you can clarify this for me, but I heard that Cutler actually let his displeasure be known when the Broncos fired their offensive coordinator after telling him that they wouldn't. I could be wrong, but I heard on the radio or TV that Cutler was pretty pissed off about that at the time and that might have instigated all these trade talks by McDaniels. Then Cutler finds out McDaniels is throwing his name into trade talks and he gets pissed off about that, too, even though he is the one that initially voiced his displeasure after the OC got wacked.

Cutler denied recent reports that he had asked to be traded when the Broncos fired offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates.
"Yes, I was upset when they let Jeremy go because Mr. Bowlen had assured me when Mike [Shanahan] was fired that the offense wouldn't change because it was the second-ranked offense in football," Cutler said. "But I didn't push for a trade then."
From the original post. Take it for what its worth.. obviously Cutler doesnt want to look like a complete douche and flat out admit it. But im sure he was more than upset when Bates was fired.
This is true. McDaniels even said Cutler and Cook got the trade talks started with other teams. I can see Shanny trading for Cutler wherever he lands next year.
Thought so. So he says he wants to be traded and then gets pissed off when they throw his name out on the table.
There are plenty of teams that will try to acquire Cutler this year. I don't see him leaving Denver if he sticks it out this season.

Yeah, there's so much shit that goes on behind closed doors that all we can do is speculate. I may be letting my silver and black shades skew my vision, but I have serious questions about Cutler's character. He just the type of player that I respect.
On a slightly different note, though relevant in the context of Broncos QBs, John Elway's reputation surely took a bigger hit when he REFUSED to play for the team that drafted him. Some how he over came that shameful situation to go on to become not only a Super Bowl winner, but an all time icon. In 1983 however, Elway was seen as one of the NFL's biggest punks.
I think what helped Elway was that Bob Irsay (Colts owner) was already thought of as a huge jerk, then after the 1983 season Irsay secretly moved the Colts to Indianapolis...making him Public Enemy #1. It kind of justified Elway's actions (even though it was after the fact).
In Cutler's case, if he goes someplace new and does well and/or McDaniels continues to be a huge debacle, then Cutler will probably overcome any neg rep.
I can't see Cutler in a different jersey other than the Broncos this season. I don't think they'll want to give up a QB they see as the 'future', who they've already spent 2 years on.
He'll get over it and he'll lead the Broncos to another sub-par season.
