That it is a celebration of his career and the person that he has become. As I said before, he could have acknowledged an abusive father and growing up in a difficult neighborhood. There is nothing wrong with that. My issue was with the detail that he provided in the speech. I didn't think it was the appropriate forum in my opinion. You don't have to agree with it. It is my opinion and mine alone. I think that his speech would have been better suited for the rookie symposium, speaking to at-risk youth, etc. I look at Michael Irvin's HOF speech in which he noted his issues as a player and not being proud of some of the things he did. However, he didn't go into great detail about the things that he did. IMVHO it was not the appropriate forum and would have been better suited for another group.

You act like he was talking about assfucking hookers or something.
So, metaphorically speaking, our physiology basically has the universe mapped out and you're thinking it needs to be taught addition & subtraction.

It's fine that it's your opinion, I was simply asking what it was based upon. Still, what do you think was inappropriate about Martin going into such detail? It seems that most people in the media were pretty in love with his speech.

A lot of the print media has been in love with it, doesn't mean I have to be though (and I understand that you are not insinuating that). I also woke up to some local broadcasts with the same opinion as me. I just felt it was too much and I think it came up due to Martin not having a formal speech prepared. Prior to the HOF enshrinement broadcast, he told NFLN that he didn't have a speech prepared and was just going to speak from the heart. Problem is that he aired some "dirty laundry" that involved other people without their prior knowledge and it may be a bit of an embarrassing moment for them. Doesn't mean it was though. I'm just saying that I thought that the parts focusing on abuse and the details involved were not appropriate for the forum. It doesn't make me right, and it doesn't make me wrong, I just felt that while it was well-intentioned, it may have been a little too much.

No, Michael Irvin was kind enough to spare us the details of his escapades in his speech a few years ago.

Yeah I'm not sure If I'd personally be ok with that if I was his mom. Haven't heard it but It does sound like a bit much.

Sounds like the kinda material that deserves to be in a biography, rather than a Hall of Fame speech.

But it's his mic, he can say whatever he wants.

Without his childhood experiences, he couldn't have developed into the player and man that he was. It made him who he was.

That being said, I agree that the detail might have been a little extreme. However, he opened up and told the world about what he grew up with. That's hard to do. Props.

I just wonder if his mom knew about it beforehand and was ok with it.

If his mom was shaking her head asking why he was telling that story in the crowd like Crimson said she was, I highly doubt she had any idea about his speech.

Going where? That I don't give a shit if his mom had a problem with it? If she's ashamed, and embarrassed she should be but it's the life he had so it's fair game in a HOF speech IMO.
