Garret Reid, son of Eagles Coach Andy Reid, found dead in dorm room at training camp

Garrett Reid, 29, son of Eagles coach Andy Reid, was found dead in a Lehigh University dormitory room early Sunday morning.

RIP Garrett. I watched my parents go through this 11 years ago. My father in particular was never the same. I wouldn't wish what they are going through and what they are about to go through on anybody.

WOW! This explains why Reid was not at practice this morning and why the Eagles were praying before practice. I feel so bad for Andy Reid. As a father I couldn't imagine going through losing a child.

No parent should ever have to bury their child. Hate to hear this.

Very, very sad. He's had such a long history of drug related run-ins with the law. I'm stunned that his life was taken and no foul play was suspected. RIP.

I dont want to sound like a dick here or anything but I read an article last year and this news is not surprising at all to me. The article was about how Andy Reid puts the football team ahead of everything else in his life. His family came second to the football team. Sometimes 80 hour weeks and not going home a lot

I'm pretty sure we could say that about 31 other coaches in the NFL and hundreds of coordinators as well. Reid shouldn't get dinged because he has a high pressure job and his kids are pretty much grown regardless. Some kids are just fuck ups no matter what you do for them.

Tom Coughlin is a family man. A man of class.

But seriously this is said news. At the end of the day parents are not supposed to bury your children.

Same thing is true of most successful coaches. Look at Dungy's son, or the details of Belichick's divorce, or listen to how Vince Lombardi's children talk about him. Maybe soon we'll stop pretending being a great football coach equals being a great person.

But this is terrible, I don't mean to blame Andy Reid for the troubles of his son. It's just a reality that with the time demands of his profession there is going to be an emotional disconnect. It doesn't make this any less of a tragic story.

But doesn't Belichick use his son as an assistant? Dungy's son was brought to training camps as well. You got family time right there. Very tragic but Garrett Reid has had drug problems for awhile I know.

You can't blame the parents for this. Tons of successful people have grown up and made themselves something after losing their parents. People blaming parents is a cop out and a lame excuse. I don't think it's fair unless they abused him.

Really sad to hear. In the locker room? Interested in the details...most likely drug related I'm guessing.

I know he's been helping with strength and conditioning with the team. IIRC he's kind of a big kid. With the oppressive heat the last few days along with whatever damage his past drug use may have done, it's not out of the question that it wasn't drug related in regards to using this weekend. By all accounts the kid was starting to turn it around.

As far as this "discussion" about what role Reid played in his kids issues, I don't think anyone knows enough about their home life to say one way or the other. I've known very successful people who had terrible home lives, and I known drug addicts who had a great support system at home.

Too many people blame Mommy and Daddy for their problems. People need to take more respnsibility for their lives and the direction it takes.

EDIT JUst looked up a pic of him, he looked like he was slimmed down.
