TAMU-LTU/UTSA-South Alabama/OSU-Nicholls St. Postponed Due To Hurricane Isaac

Thursday's scheduled opener between Texas A&M and Louisiana Tech has been postponed until Oct. 13 because of Hurricane Isaac.

Both schools were scheduled to have a bye that week.

The game was scheduled for Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La. Louisiana Tech athletic director Bruce Van de Velde says university officials, who announced the postponement on Tuesday, are concerned about the safety of the athletes and fans, and want to be conscientious of the effect the storm could have on residents throughout the region.

Officials say the kickoff time will be determined at a later date. Tickets and parking permits already purchased will be honored, but there will be no refunds.

Tech now opens Sept. 8 at Houston, while A&M opens Sept. 8 at home against No. 23 Florida.

It is the first postponement in the wake of Hurricane Isaac, which was poised to hit the Southeastern coastline on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Several other games could be impacted. Tulane, which plays at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, is scheduled to open its season on Saturday. Rutgers officials said there is no update on whether the game will be played and will know more on Wednesday.

Tulane went to Birmingham, Ala., to practice at Samford University on Tuesday.

Welp, my weekend is ruined. No reason to watch any of the other CFB games on Saturday as this was clearly the marquee matchup of the week.

Hurricane Isaac has forced Oregon State and Nicholls State to postpone their season opener that was set for Saturday at Reser Stadium in Corvallis.

Hurricane Isaac has forced Oregon State and Nicholls State to postpone their season opener set for Saturday at Reser Stadium in Corvallis.

Oregon State officials said Wednesday night the game will be rescheduled.

The Nicholls State campus in Thibodaux, La., is closed because of Isaac, and classes Friday already have been canceled. The team was scheduled to take a charter flight to Oregon on Friday morning.

"It's extremely unfortunate that we will not be able to make this trip," Nicholls State athletic director Rob Bernardi said in a statement. "With the lingering effects of Hurricane Isaac, we do not want to put any of our student-athletes or staff in danger, so at this point, we feel like it is best to focus on the safety of everyone, and we'll look into rescheduling the game at a later time."

Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes in Southern Louisiana were hit hard by heavy wind and rain from Isaac on Wednesday, leaving some 60,000 homes and business in the area without power. The slow-moving storm that caused widespread coastal flooding was later downgraded.

Officials for the two schools will now consider options for rescheduling the game. Because the teams have different off dates, the game could be scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 1, but there could be a conflict if the Colonels reach the FCS playoffs or the Beavers go to the Pac-12 championship.

Pac-12 officials also will be involved in rescheduling the game.

The two schools originally planned to decide whether to postpone the game Thursday night. Options included playing on Sunday or Monday.

"It became apparent as the day progressed that the safety of Nicholls State's team and personnel was a primary concern," Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis said in a statement. "Many of the Colonels' student-athletes and staff are with family and there is a deepening concern about their safety in returning to campus."

The Beavers will now open the season at home Sept. 8 against No. 12 Wisconsin. The Colonels open at South Alabama that day.

Fortunately, Hurricane Isaac hasn't yet forced any cancellations or major schedule alterations to the brand-new college football season.

But it's already caused plenty of headaches for certain schools in the hurricane's path, including a big one for full-flegded FBS debutant South Alabama: the Jaguars announced Tuesday that their planned Thursday night home opener against UT-San Antonio has been moved to Saturday.

The Jaguars play at Mobile, Ala.'s Ladd-Peebles Stadium, where they will host the Roadrunners at 2 p.m. ET Saturday.

"After long consideration of numerous factors impacting the game, the logical decision is to move the game to Saturday," USA athletic director Dr. Joel Erdmann said in a statement. "We encourage our fans to come out, enjoy a great football game and support the Jaguars."

Isaac was upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane Tuesday and is expected to make landfall in southeast Lousiana Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. Though not as strong as Katrina, the storm is expected to flood the Gulf Coast with massive rains and powerful storm surges.

The storm could force a decision similar to South Alabama's at Louisiana Tech, which is scheduled to play host to Texas A&M in Shreveport, La., Thursday night at 7:30 ET. Bulldog officials issued a statement saying they would monitor the storm's progress and attempt to have an official decision Tuesday afternoon.

LSU's home opener against North Texas is scheduled for Saturday in inland Baton Rouge, but athletic director Joe Alleva wouldn't rule out a potential postponement if a crisis situation arose.

"We are continuously monitoring weather conditions and considering potential impacts as we prepare for this weekend's football season opener in Tiger Stadium and other athletic events," Alleva said in a statement. "At this time we are planning to hold the game at 6 p.m. on Saturday as scheduled. We will evaluate the impact of the storm and its aftermath as we learn more throughout the week."
