John Skelton will be the Cardinals’ starting quarterback in Week One, according to Adam Caplan of The Sideline View.
Skelton beat out Kevin Kolb for the job. The Cardinals traded for Kolb last offseason and signed him to a six-year, $65 million contract. Kolb started last season but played in only nine games because of concussions. He threw nine touchdown passes and eight interceptions.
Skelton, a third-year pro, started the other seven games for Arizona last season and threw 11 TD passes and 14 picks.
This preseason, the numbers have been similar. Kolb and Skelton each threw one touchdown pass. Kolb threw three interceptions to Skelton’s two, and Kolb completed 59.5 percent of his passes — Skelton completed 56.0 percent of his.
The Cardinals open their 2012 season at home against the Seahawks.
