Texans Sign Matt Schaub To A 4-Year, $62m Extension

    Rotoworld

Texans signed QB Matt Schaub to a four-year, $62 million extension.

So much for the Texans making Schaub prove his health and effectiveness. He was set to make $7.15 million this season, the final year of his contract. Now he gets $25 million in guarantees and long-term security. The Texans are clearly comfortable with the state of the Lisfranc fracture that cost him six games plus the playoffs last season. Schaub, now an elite "game manager," completed 20-of-31 passes for 266 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's win over the Dolphins.

Considering TJ Yates, I am really surprised they gave this deal to Schaub. I know you want to hold onto assets as long as possible and two QBs is very valuable, but this isn't close to Brees/Rivers, or even RGIII/Cousins. But Schaub is a game manager, had the Lisfranc surgery and is 31. I would have at least waited until the end of the season, and maybe franchised him if this season goes well, but not extended him.

Yates had a good run (with a good D) but few people here actually think he's the next in line to succeed here for the Texans.

Good move. 31 years old isn't terribly old for a QB and he definitely makes some big plays off of that elite running attack. If they feel comfortable with his recovery then yeah, go ahead. TJ Yates isn't anything more than an OK backup. His name shouldn't even be brought into the discussion.

                lol.

I'm surprised because I think he still needs to overcome durability issues. But you can't deny it he's having a successful time with the Texans right now.

Not sure I'd hand him that contract after one game, but it's hardly the most unreasonable deal ever handed out in the NFL. Schaub is a proven top-12 NFL quarterback ... and the guaranteed money is reasonable. And nothing about Schaub's numbers cry out "game manager" ... that's a ridiculous insult.

Mario isn't worth the bills, just ask Buffalo.

It's only one game. Not writing off Mario based on one game.

Too bad he doesn't play Miami twice a year or else he would have gotten a Manning size contract.
