Cutler needs to learn when to throw the ball away. On all of his scrambles, I can’t think of one play that actually had a positive result. They were either sacks, INTs, or incomplete passes. Rodgers was also getting pressured (not to the extent of Cutler), and he would dump the ball off. His only INT came when he and James Jones weren’t on the same page.

    .
To touch on this, I agree Cutler needs to get rid of the ball more quickly or in scramble situations but he had few dump off chances because the Bears went max protect a lot.

One view of the game demonstrated this to me perfectly. it was 2nd or 3rd and long and the Bears went max protect and only put three guys out in the route. The Packers, not needing to blitz to bring pressure, dropped 7 or 8 guys into coverage. The Bears didn't release anyone off the max protect after a chip block so even with the "added protection" Cutler was still playing 3 vs 8 in the secondary.

The Packers, and especially Matthews, ability to get absurd amounts of pressure with just their front 4 so quickly(almost immediately at times) and Tice having to counter by holding in Davis and Forte/Bush to block so much really changed the game from the early going.

The Packers offensive line obviously didn't hold up great but they at least held back the Bears enough most of the time for the Packers to still put 4-5 guys out in routes and give Rodgers time to find one of them. Had the Bears offensive line been as competent as the Packers I think Cutler and the Bears O preform better because they could get the ball to the outside more and take advantage of the bracket coverages on Marshall by running digs/crosses underneath it.

Webb is going to get shit on a lot, and rightfully so, but Garza and Spencer played absolutely awful last night. The entire left side of the Bears offensive line stunk. Louis, and Carimi(outside of the personal foul on Hawk) I thought played well enough for the Bears to do what they needed to do on offense...it's just that the other 3/5ths of the line didn't hold up at all.

      1) I have no idea what to expect from the Green Bay Packers defense this season. In week 1 they played like they did last season, but against the Bears they put on a 2010 show with deflected passes and pressure from the front 4. This Packers team could go any way this season.

      2) If the offensive line holds up, Cedric Benson could be the difference maker this season. As long as the defense doesn't meet him in the backfield, he has the potential to turn any run into a larger gain.

      3) Drops

yeah, it was a terrible game. the announcers made it even worse. this is the best the nfl network could come up with

And much like the putrid Rams of the last half dozen years or so, the Bears don't have Mike Martz to kick around anymore.

Cedric Benson has been the difference maker to an NFL team the same amount of times as me. 0.

As much as I love Jay, mainly because he is the best Bears QB ive seen in my lifetime. He was pretty awful last night. He is so prone to letting shit go to his head. The Packers had to only bring 4 and they were there by time he was on his plant foot in a pass. He was done no favors by anybody on his team. And that combination triggered a thing in his head and next thing you know he was all over the fuckin place.

                - Jay, I have no problems with you shoving J Webb, I do however have issues with how you played last night. Every time this kid takes 2 steps forward, he takes 3 steps back. He never wants to make the simple play and make his life easy.

                - O-Line. From left to right. 78 should not be a NFL field until he gets it. Right now he doesn't. He laughed when Jay was screaming at him, and he laughed in his post game questions. Someone asked him if it was a tough job to block Clay Matthews. His answer was and im not joking. "*chuckles* oh man, uhhh, *chuckles* Im not going to answer that" Seriously what the fuck. 67 got old and needs to retire. 63 got handled a couple times, but he was late on multiple sacks. Louis and Carimi were both decent enough. Well minus the 15 yarder on Carimi.

                - Aaaaaaand Mr Tice. Mr Mr Tice. If I notice 2 Man, then why the hell didnt you notice it. They wanted to take away Marshall. He had someone over the top all game. Yet, 8 of the first 10 plays were passes, and what made it worse was he never helped out Webb. Sure the occasional chip, but Kellen Davis seems to be a worse blocker than Webb. And a light commitment to running the ball coming out of half time and it led to points. Gee there's a shocker. Tice needs to get better, hopefully he can see how outmatched by Dom he really was.

                - I am very proud of the defense. They played their nuts off with half a Urlacher. 16 points to a group many called old and done, not bad guys. But they have to make sure to keep going, and not give up 30 to STL.

                - I fully expect the Bears to be good, and be in every game this year. Except when they play GB. Just not in the cards, GB owns them lately.

Everything being said about Cutler and the line is accurate.
But for the love of God those Bears WRs either cant get open or are running far too complex a route. They shouldnt be that deep and running complex routes every play. When your QB is that flaky under pressure and your Oline cant protect your job is to shorten the field and develop quick outlets for your QB. I saw none of that and frankly I havent seen it in years from Chicago.

                      No sir they have not.

Look at the amount of freakishly elite pass rushers 20 years ago and look at them today.

Think of what guys like Demarcus Ware, JPP, James Harrisson, Aldon Smith, Clay Matthews, Suggs, Von Miller, Julius Peppers, etc. would have done if they played 20 years ago when the Left Tackle position wasn't as coveted as it is today and DB's were allowed to rape wide receivers.
Not to mention teams seem to have more depth and top to bottom talent than in years past, also.
                      [/QUOTE]

I think Ware , Peppers , Suggs , and Harrison would excel anytime...the rest are undersized or under developed. Greatly benefiting from the extra opportunities a game and never really having to worry about being run at or dealing with a FB or Hback.

I think Reggie White , Bruce Smith , Charles Haley , Derrick Thomas , Tim Harris , Chris Doleman , Kevin Greene ,Clyde Simmons and Simon Fletcher stack up favorably to todays crop. If you give remove the backfield blocking , fear of the run , and put them one on one for an extra 5-6 downs a game I think theyd do just fine.

Between 2011-2012 8 Tackles were taken in the first round. Between 1991-1992 9 tackles were taken in the first round. Between 1981-1982 6 Tackles were taken.
Even before sack became an official stat Tackles were highly coveted.

Virtually no team has more depth today than they did 20 years ago.

To be straight forward only 1-2 teams a year truly put forth really good defense. S.F is the only real standout IMO because they are so balanced and so sound fundamentally. All there guys tackle well (relative to todays game) , and can cover. Most teams like GB/NYJ/Pitt /NYG etc are essentially throwing there entire load on getting to the QB. You end up with players like Polumalu who are impatient , and undisciplined leaving guys wide open giving up chunks but saving there reputation by leaping over a pile like superman to force a fumble every 3 weeks. The league has too many Lavar Arringtons not enough Harry Carsons.
Best reason to have a license.

True, but he's always had talent, I thought. And in his one year as an almost full-time starter, he ran for 1200 yards in 13 games. He'll be a legitimate rushing threat for the Packers this year.

And besides, he's an upgrade from Starks, so...

And being a difference maker doesn't mean you have to be a superstar. Ced Benson will be a difference maker if he can consistently give the Packers a running threat beyond the likes of Ryan Grant or James Starks.
