    The Official what happened to?

    Nnamdi Asomugha

In yesterday's game Nnamdi Asomugha was basically getting beat on a lot of routes and a few times he was either called for illegal contact or just got beat straight up. Jacoby Jones (yes) abused him on a TD catch. What happened to him? I remember a few years ago it being argued he was the best CB in the league. Did he get his money and tap out?

    Chris Johnson

Johnson has been pretty horrible going on two years now. A few years ago he ran for 2,000 yards and got his money. When I watch him now it is almost as if he just doesn't care. He gets the ball and proceeds to run into an offensivle lineman. At his best he was a master at avoiding contact, cutting, catching the ball out of the backfield, etc and now he looks like he's ready for the game to end. Did he get his money and tap out?

I cannot believe anyone is surprised by CJ2k going downhill. Look at his last two seasons YPC. He is clearly on the decline since hitting 2000, but people want to act like it was just him sitting out an offseason that affected him.

      2008 - 4.9 YPC
      2009 - 5.6 YPC (2000 yard season)
      2010 - 4.3 YPC
      2011 - 4.0 YPC
      2012 - 1.1 YPC (through 2 games)

Nnamdi Asomugha has been overrated for a good 3 years imo. The whole "THEY AREN'T THROWING AT HIM SO HE MUST BE AMAZING!!!1" argument doesn't work. He's not a bad player but he's not the best CB in the league like people used to think and it's laughable that people used to think he was better than Revis. The moment everyone started jumping on Asomugha's dick is the moment I regretted my username.

I remember one season he was thrown at 28 times but 21 times he gave up a catch. That's 75% of the passes thrown his way being completed.

the thing with Aso is that he's great at getting his hands on a WR and taking away quick stuff in bump and run. Qb's used to see him locked in on a wr and go the other way because the coverage was intially tight. what he has issues with is making plays on the ball after the initial jam. he probably should have stayed a Safety, which is what he played at Cal, at least part time.
that TD he gave up to jacoby was a great through plus the fact it was an all out blitz that didn't get home. he was expecting a quicker through.

Knocking Nnamdi this year is just piling on.
One fucking TD on a nice play by Jones and Nnamdi suddenly sucks? Really?
It was Jones' only catch all day.
Look at Baltimore's receivers Sunday. All pretty much shut down.
Nnamdi was what he used to be last year because they played him like he is Assante Samuel, which he obviously is not.

This year, everything he does is examined to death ... so 1 bad coverage and he's suddenly a bust? Really?

He's had more media coverage in two years in Philly than he ever got in that baseball park.

DRC and Nnamdi are the 2nd best cover corner combo in the NFL behind Cromartie and Revis.

I agree last year Juan Castillo tried to play too much of a Cover 2 scheme and I'm not sure that's Asomugha's strong suit. I'm not saying he sucks either, he's just not in that top tier of corners imo.

EDIT: Just bought PFF premium statistics and yes I'm excited even more for the upcoming season.

Yes, it's only through two games but according to them this season:

He allowed 3/7 passes throw his way (42.9%), for 51 yards (17.0 ypc), 46 yac, 24 is the long, allowed 1 TD, 0 INT's, 2 PD, 107.7 QB rating his way.

So we'll see how the season continues.

EDIT 2: Edited out the grading part because not all of week 2's games are graded but he does have a positive coverage grade.

                      Get lost with this shit.

DRC was one of the NFL's most overrated players since his Arizona days.

Nnamdi played for years in a system where he stayed on one side of the field, so teams would just run their scrub WR to his side and never bother with him. I suppose there is something to be said for effectively eliminating half of the field by default, but most of the really good corners move around the field and either follow the best WR (A. Samuel for many years, Revis) or play the slot on third down (Finnegan).

After the Eagles couldn't cover anybody last season, you have some nerve making a statement like that. How many teams have you watched this year to even be able to make that claim?

Warner - samuel doesn't follow wr's anywhere. he's a left corner. PERIOD. ask him and he'll tell you the same. and the eagles coverage wasn't the problem, it was rush defense and tackling. Deion Sanders never played no slot (except slot WR) neither did Rod Woodson or Eric Allen. It takes a different skill set to move inside where you have a 2-way release to defend.

That's why I said Samuel for many years, pre Eagles he was either a shadow CB or moved all over the place.
