Chiefs did not offer extension to Pioli

The Kansas City Star refuted a report from CBS on Sunday that the club had offered to extend the contract of general manager Scott Pioli.

The CBS report said Pioli and the Chiefs were discussing a two-year extension, despite the club's massive struggles this season. Kansas City is tied with Cleveland for the worst record in the league at 1-5.

Much of the blame in Kansas City had been laid at the feet of quarterback Matt Cassel and the offense, but Cassel was out of Sunday's game against Tampa Bay with a concussion, and replacement Brady Quinn could not muster an offensive touchdown as the Chiefs were hammered, 38-10.

Regarding Pioli, there is obviously plenty of work to be done in Kansas City to get things back on track. The question is how much more time will Pioli get to try and fix it.

There is still some talent on this team, some of which Pioli had a hand in drafting. However, Cassel is not a starting QB and Pioli is waging his job on the fact that he is. This was a team that should have made another move for a QB in the off-season and let things play out in training camp.

The Chiefs defense has always been their big problem, regardless of Cassel. I think Cassel sucks, but he was "good enough" when they went to the playoffs.

      Houston/Jackson/Dorsey/Hali/Flowers/Routt/Berry/Johnson....

Maybe it's just the fact that I use them in Madden, but are these not good football players?

I've always though their problem was the coach. Crennel is a good coach who for whatever reason is able to get the players to play well for a short time, but after that it tends to go downhill.

I think the greatest Madden defense was the 1993 SD Chargers. Leslie O'Neal and Billy Ray Smith = QB sack!
