    Cal fires Jeff Tedford

He built a pretty solid program in his 11 years at Berkley, but he could never get the Bears over the hump. Then the bottom fell out just as the school started pouring money into the football facilities. Will be interesting to see what direction Cal goes in with their next hire, I feel they could emerge as more of a power with the right coach in place.

(Sidenote- the win over 3-9 Cal is one Ohio State's best this season, LOL)

Those would all be terrible hires.

a lot of people said the same about USC hiring Carroll and UCLA hiring Mora Jr, but they seemed to have worked out...

Stewart Mandel seems to think they'll go after an up-and-comer at a smaller program. Two guys he has named on twitter: Mike MacIntyre (San Jose State) and Gary Anderson (Utah State) ...

I wonder how much of Tedford's success and QB guru legacy was due to the partial luck of getting Aaron Rodgers from JUCO. I didn't really follow the program, but Cal always seemed overrated and their QBs were never that impressive against good schools.

Those two names make a lot of sense. I'll also throw out Herm Edwards and Steve Mariucci as candidates.
