    vs. Giants - 19 for 30, 0 td, 3 int, 200 yards
    vs Seahawks - 14 for 23, 1 td, 1 int, 140 yards

Last year in playoffs vs. Giants - 12 for 26, 196 yards

Alex Smith is a game manager and does tend to do well in easier matchups. Let's not pretend he can go out there vs. the top teams in the NFL and keep you ahead. If they had a legit QB last season, they would've won the Superbowl. Blame Williams all you want, but Smith was unable to get his offense into scoring position when needed.

I don't know about you, but what I saw one of the best defenses in the league last Monday was a team that was confused (Bears) vs a team that looked explosive. Kaepernick has the ability to turn the 49ers into a powerhouse if he is able to run the offense the way he did last week. There's no way you can tell what is coming in Full house/pistol formations.

Not saying ur wrong about the Bears defense but I am pretty sure any defense would have done bad in that game. The Bears offense could do jack shit so the Bears D was on the field for a long time, not to mention they probably didn't have long to prepare for Kap.

what has kap done to make everyone think he is the 2nd coming? oh wait, espn had hyped him to god like status for ratings from their own fabricated stories. i wonder what its like to let espn think for me
Not the second coming, just better than Smith.

Kaepernick was an incredibly talented player in college -- just because he didn't go to a power conference people didn't notice him. He has a strong arm and great running ability.

Vernon Davis was non existant with Smith under the gun, yet he's the most talented tight end other than Jimmy Graham in the NFC. It's worth a shot to see if Kaep has the skillset to win, and I think he does.

NFL coaches aren't retarded, they won't just make a change based on one game. Kaepernick has obviously shown he is pushing Alex Smith in practice, and the game tape was all Harbaugh needed to see. He wouldn't risk his career to make a switch just because of one game.

Kaepernick did not play with controlled protective playcalling against the Bears. That is false.

What Alex Smith has proven in the last two years has been that he is still Alex Smith. Capable of greatness, and then comes out the next week and lays an egg. He's an above-average QB who plays great sometimes, but he's not a great QB. Harbaugh is looking for a great QB, that's why he drafted Kaep, that's why he's been putting in Kaep all season long, and that's why Kaep will start for the second time in a row this weekend.

I still believe that we can win a Super Bowl with Alex Smith under center with the right set of circumstances, but every team wants a QB who can win you a game in the worst circumstances. If our defense is playing poor, if our run game is getting stuffed, Smith is useless. I think it's time to see if Kaep can be that guy who can not just win a game while playing QB, but win a game because he was playing QB.

idk i feel the same way as rudi but i havent watched a lot of niners game this year.

You are probably right and this is just my 49er homerism coming out but I thought it was the opposite. Kaep came out firing and it seemed like the Bears were caught off guard by that. It seems like they were thinking "Oh sh*t, he can throw and throw it deep so now we have to back up" which led to big runs by Gore and Hunter since they then had to respect the pass.

Given the fact that Harbaugh basically resurrected Alex Smith's career he should just deal with it. Harbaugh and everyone else knows what he has in Smith, which is basically a guy that can put up decent stats, because really just plays it safe. With Smith Harbaugh's offense is limited, but Harbaugh did what he had to do to make it work.

It is stupid for NFL coaches to replace a proven QB based on one good game from the backup.

Alex Smith isn't capable of winning you many games. He's just great at not losing. Kaep has more potential, this is a good move imo
