    Lane Kiffin should be fired

First team since Johnny Vaught's 1964 Ole Miss Rebels that started the year as the #1 team in AP only to finish the year out of the rankings.

Ole Miss went from National Power...shares of 3 National Titles in 4 years to mediocrity and Vaught would never get Ole Miss back to national prominence and Ole Miss has never gotten close to that kind of success after that season.

History lesson being...Kiffin should be fired.

Some of the worst clock management and red zone play calling I've seen at the end of that ND game.
You have two of the best wide outs in the country and decide to have a who's dick is bigger contest with a run D thats allowed -31 yards rushing in the redzone on the season? How do you get to the 1 with 5mins left and manage not only to come away with zero points in a 9 point game, but also eat the better part of 3mins off the clock? Terrible coaching.

Also of note, is the #4 pre-season rated Arizona Wildcats from 1999...would go 6-6 and Dick Tomey would "retire" the next year...Arizona would never return to national prominence like they were in the Tomey Desert Storm days since.

You just don't return from that kind of collapse.

I can dig the historical perspective, but those places aren't USC.

But I agree, Kiffin should be fired. He sucks.

They should try to steal Bill O'Brien. What an awesome job that guy did.

I don't know how many quality coaches are going to find the scholarship reductions very appealing.

They currently have the #1 recruiting class on Rivals, #3 on Scout, #1 on 247, and #1 on ESPN. The scholarship reductions won't detract anyone.

8-4 wasn't exactly unrealistic considering their defense returned everyone. I think his biggest success was with McGloin...I think McGloin was the team's MVP. Played within himself in that offense and just let everything happen. Didn't force a single football this year.

I think 2013 and beyond is when the job for O'Brien gets really difficult. They lose a LOT of talent on defense this year. Also lose McGloin.

No, they aren't...but in particular, Ole Miss, was a national power at the time...they were one of the best teams in the country and Vaught is a great coach. They had a great 17 year run before that season and it just fell apart and its never come back.

The historical perspective is more toward...you just don't come back from that kind of collapse. Kiffin isn't that good of a coach. Very good recruiter...sure. But he sucks as a coach...USC should cut their losses. You just can't Mea culpa this kind of fall, IMO.

The problem with the scholarship reductions isn't about attracting talent. Southern Cal is currently a school that can get highly regarded players as long as the coaches try to recruit, but the depth of that team is definitely going to be an issue three classes down the line.

Kiffin won't get fired, he'll leave on his own right before the ship sinks.

It was brutal to watch. Should be canned over that just on principle alone.

How bout the timeout on like 2nd and 2 that negatated a TD? As he was running towards the ref it looked like he was so unsure whether calling the TO.

I don't think it would have been a TD considering Lee didn't hold on to the ball after he was hit.

Lee ended up dropping that ball/not hanging on to it.
